I really think that GSP is focused and on a high right now. I feel that he will totally dominate Serra and finish him early. Most likely GnP. GSP will show his dominance once again, like before the fluke loss to Serra.
I think he will. Pierre is more likely to be beaten standing up. He has an awesome ground game. He wasn't meant to outwrestle koscheck either, and he did.
A BJJ fighter the calibur of Serra is not getting subbed by St Pierre.Do you even know who Matt Serra is!? ::
Don't patronise me BTG. Of course I know who Matt Serra is. In fact, I've stuck up for him many times when people act like it's a fluke that he beat Pierre, and that he's some bum. But you know, I could have said EXACTLY the same thing before the koscheck fight. "A wrestler the caliber of Koscheck is not getting outwrestled by Pierre, do you even know who Josh is? :: " etc etc But he fucking manhandled him. Pierre is a good striker, but his best asset is his ground game, and I think he submits the Serra. I think Pierre is going to be very determined to win this fight, but Serra still has a chance, the little fucker can fight.
GSP even admits that Serra is better at submissions then he is. Which is too bad because Serra appears to be better standing up as well.
:: Serra probably is better at submissions than GSP, but not by much. And Pierre is STRONG on the ground, very strong and very crafty.
Serra is definitely much better at BJJ than GSP is. No doubt about that. However, GSP is the bigger stronger guy. Much like the Kos fight, he wasn't a better wrestler technically, he's just stronger and over powered Kos. All the skills in the world can't help you when a guy can straight up over power you. That's what happened to Kos. All I know is GSP had better have a better game plan than he did last time. If he stands with Serra, he probably get's KO'd again. I think GSP needs to get Serra down and just control him and win a boring fight. I seriously doubt he subs Serra though. GNP is more likely and a boring decision win is even more likely. IMO
You are right about the strength that is something i never really considered. Serra to me is a 155lber. BJ Penn is better then Serra and he got handled on the ground in rounds 2 and 3. That was more to do with streangth then anything else. BJ is the best on the ground in MMA IMO.
That's possible too, but I am going out on a limb and saying a submission, after frustrating serra a bit, throwing him around and ground and pounding him over 2 rounds. And yep, I never wanted to imply that Pierre was technically better than koscheck and serra at wrestling and BJJ. But the combination of good technique PLUS being so big, fast, powerful and explosive makes him more effective.
Exactly, and that's my point. Pierre out grounded BJ Penn and Koscheck, that's nothing to sniff at, his ground ability is being highly underrated here. Even if someone is technically better than him at BJJ or wrestling, his sheer strength and explosiveness evens things up pretty quickly.
Just Cause Serra is BETTER @ BJJ DOESN'T Mean GSP CAN'T have Success N that Realm... It's like HANDSPEED N Boxing...Just Cause 1 Guy has QUICKER Hands, that DOESN'T Mean he's Gonna ALWAYS Beat the Other Guy to the Punch... SUPERIOR BJJ Skills R Great, but DECEPTION, TIMING & REACTION Plays a Role as Well... GSP's Good Enough on the Ground to BEAT Serra to a Particular Move by a Split Second...His BJJ DOESN'T have to B Better to Beat Serra @ it... Marcus Hicks Only RECENTLY Got his Black Belt N BJJ, yet he's TAPPED his Own Instructor Several Times...Obviously, Marcus ISN'T BETTER than his Instructor @ BJJ, but on those Particular Days, he REACTED QUICKER... REED
Good post. It's a fairly simplistic way of looking at things, that because Serra has more BJJ skill than Pierre, he is immune to being subtmitted himself. Like I said, they said the same thing about Koscheck. Pierre's strength, timing and explosiveness negated Koscheck's edge in wrestling skill pretty definitively.
I will sig bet any of you that GSP does not submit Serra. I am sure it's not happening. The only slight chance is if Serra taps due to strikes.
my thoughts exactly, not only is Serra criminally underrated as a fighter, his jiu-jitsu is also being understated. He is a world class black belt and will not get submited by GSP. I see GSP winning a hard fought ud, or maybe stopping Serra by strikes in one of teh championship rounds.
I like anybody who hates Matt Hughes' guts and calls him out on his BS religious beliefs. God bless Matt Serra! Unfortunately I have to cheer for 'Rush' St Pierre because he rocks!
The only way GSP will win by submission is if Serra is rocked and on the ground. In a jiu jitsu match gimme Serra in less than 5 minutes depending on time limit and if they fought black belt rules (longer time limit) I like GSP by G-N-P decision. I dont think anyone is getting stopped this time.
On the "Countdown" Show, Serra Said he was Italian-American...He Definitely has that East Coast, No Frills, "Guido" Vibe:: ... But During an Episode of TUF (When Matt Hughes had his Team REEDing Bible Verses), Serra said he was Jewish... A Jewish, Italian-American???... REED:dunno:
Maybe he is half Jewish/half Italian? He always talks about eating too much Italian food, and his wife is Italian. He looks more Jewish than Italian to me, though.
