You don’t play boxing, and boxing is no game. To be successful in boxing it has to be your life. It has to flow through your veins. For some fighters it’s easy, because that’s their only option in life. However, there has been an interesting emergence of college educated boxers. You have the Klitschko brothers who hold doctorates in sports medicine. There is Calvin Brock, known as the boxing banker. Bonecrusher Smith was the first heavyweight champion with a college degree (he holds a B achelors degree in Business Administration). The former NABA Cruiserweight Champion Shaun George is of the same cloth. The Brooklyn native carries himself in an articulate manner, can intelligently speak on many different subjects, but never sells himself short when discussing his own career and his desire to emerge as one the sport’s prominent figures. News came recently that George is set to face former Heavyweight Champion Chris Byrd on May 16th in Las Vegas. While most of the talk surrounding this bout is regarding Chris Byrd moving down to 175lbs, George sees this bout as the opportunity he needs to showcase his talents. Most experts will favor Byrd because of his slick style and possibly bringing heavyweight power to the light-heavyweight division. But George seems to be relishing the role of the dark horse and is set to make the most of his opportunity. http://fightbeat.com/article_detail.php?AT=624
Byrd is gonna whup this kid and make him use his education to go sell hotdogs at a ball park or somthing
i doubt byrd will have any significance at light heavy. just because he's moving down doesnt mean that he's going to punch much harder. he might be shot for all i know.
i didn't say anything about byrd vs. george. george is mediocre, but i don't expect byrd to go in there looking like bob foster.
:: Byrd is comin in just tryin to take heads off:: j/k I actually agree.. I think you are a puncher or you are not, his punches will be harder maybe at a lighter weight.. in a way.. but he is not that type of fighter.
I can't believe you guys don't see this coming. Upset of the year!!!! No way Byrd can adapt to LHW that fast. SG UD. I hope the odds are off the charts!$$$$$$
