Who has had the better career: Shane or Oscar?

There will be those that disagree with their career defining fights, but such is life. I'll take Shane for the sole reason that Oscar has lost every one of his big fights. He should have beaten Tito but decided that throwing punches in the later rounds just wasn't worth his time. At least with SSM he stepped up and beat Oscar when it counted, and then again in 2003. And yes, I had Shane winning both fights.

 

De La Hoya has the better overall career despite not having the head-to-head edge.

Obviously it was easier for De La Hoya than anyone else to get the big fights, but it is what it is.

Saying De La Hoya lost every one of his big fights isn't quite fair.

His fights with guys such as Hernandez, Ruelas, Chavez, Whitaker, Quartey, and Vargas were very big at the time.

He was lucky to win a couple of those but also unlucky to lose to Trinidad.

I have always liked Shane more... and he is arguably a better fighter.

Oscar by far. Who the hell is Shane Mosley? :: If not for Oscar, this guy would still be fighting on free HBO in tiny venues.

 

I'm curious as to why people think that ODLH has "easily" or "by far" had a better career. Oscar had some good wins against big names (Whitaker, Chavez, etc....), but those fighters were considerably past their prime when they fought. In all other cases, ODLH has came up short. Shane has fallen short on more than one occasion as well, but I don't think in any way his career is in inferior to that of Oscar's.

 

What were Shane Mosley's best wins outside of the first fight with Oscar De La Hoya? The 2nd win came when Mosley juiced.

Oscar's resume of solid wins is deeper than Mosley's.

 

Shane's a bum. Lost twice to Vernon, lost twice to Winky, never beat a great fighter other than Oscar whom he got a gift against. Lost to Cotto. Who's this guy beaten worth a damn?

shane's other noticeable wins came in against leija, molina, and vargas. oscar beat all three of them first.

still, mosley's the better fighter, but just not managed as well.

If you actually followed their careers rather than judging based on hindsight and viewing boxrec, you'll know that Oscar has had a much bigger and better career than Shane.

 

I've followed both of them. Was a big fan of Oscar up until the Tito fight.

And what's wrong with hindsight? Isn't that how all careers are judged?

 

Shane's a steroid addict. He was clearly on roids for the Oscar rematch. It's so obvious looking at his sudden new Incredible Hulk physique in that match.::

 

He won that fight.

 

He gave that fight away. He deserved to lose.

If Shane had beaten Cotto on the scorecards(I thought it was at least a draw), this may have been up for debate, but he didn't.

Therefore, Oscar has had the better career.

 

He won the fight. Spin it however you like Fade To Black. Trinidad was given a boxing lesson for 8 rounds. Trinidad DID NOT win that fight.

No spin job necessary. Facts are Oscar decided to run for the last couple of rounds thinking he had done enough to win the fight. He was wrong.

I will say Shane though..

Shane also IMO will still have a couple big fights still.. he was very competative with Cotto (a draw really)

although DLH DID give Tito a boxing lesson in their fight, he made a choice to stop fighter.. either by fear that he'd get stretched or just thought he did enough to coast so he lost..
