Round by Round: Bernard Hopkins vs. Joe Calzaghe

More of a flash KD. Bernard didn't follow up in anyway.

 

A good solid short right to the nose while they were coming together. Calzaghe got right up. He looked more surprised than hurt BUT he didn't put his normal punch output in after that. Not a good start for a US debut. :doh:

 

why the fuck didn't hopkins jumped on him ?? Cal was hurt

 

Calzaghe can't get of at all.

They meet in the middle of the ring....Jab/right by Hopkins, but fall short and rushes in for the clinch. Left to the body by Calzaghe, Hop falls into the ropes and clinch. CLINCH by both fighters, left hand by Calzaghe, CLINCH....LONG JAB by Hopkins lands. Jab/right hand by Hopkins, and CLINCH...Straight left by Calzaghe, Hopkins missing with the left.

Jab by Calzaghe but missing with the left hand...LOW blow by Calzaghe..HOPKINS COMPLAINS...son of bitch...cheating bastard HOPKINS. Jab by Calzaghe, but Hopkins holds him...PREVENT Calzaghe from throwing more punches.

Left to the head and boyd by Calzaghe while clinching, HOpkins trying to do the same...

Round 2: Calzaghe

 

Calzaghe getting a taste of his own medicine tonight.

 

Hops won 2 rounds IMO.

Calzaghe looks frustrated/confused to me

Jab,jab by Calzaghe, right to the body by Hopkins and he turns Calzaghe. CLINCH and low blows by Hopkins to the body of Calzaghe. Lead right by Hopkins catching Calzaghe coming in, CLINCH and UPPERCUTS by Hopkins Calzaghe has a look in his eyes..Jab/left by Calzaghe, counter right by Hopkins and they CLINCH again. Right and HEADBUTT by Hopkins. Left/right/left by Calzaghe but Hopkins come back with a hard right and CLINCH..

Hopkins jumping in with one lead right at a time and clinching...Calzaghe following Hops around..slapping lefts by Calzaghe while clinching. Right/left by Calzaghe, RIgh thand by Hopkins down the middle, Calzaghe holds..

Hopkins is a mean, tough old S.O.B....if Calzaghe thinks he's going to win in the clinches he's in for a long night.

 

I got Hops up 3-0 now. He is landing all the clean punches. Calzaghe is struggling to get off and Hops is blocking, slipping and holding to avoid punches.

Hops' right hand to body and head is perfect tonight.

 

Calzaghe won that round, unless you count headbutts as landed punches.

Hopkins keeps coming up with his head. He might get the knockout that way. ::

 

Decent round for Calzaghe but he needs to start landing more.

I'm STILL willing to bet anyone here that he pulls this out after this start.

They meet in the middle of the ring..they start with a clinch, left hand by Calzaghe, CLINCH by HOpkins, they trade a few body shots while clinching. Cortez break 'em apart...Counter left hand by Calzaghe, right/left to the body but nothing HARD. Jab/Left hand by Calzaghe pushing Hopkins into the corner...RIGHT HAND by HOPKINS, and CLINCH/headbutt by HOPS and CORTEZ WARNS both of them.......

Right to the body by Hopkins, Calzaghe reaching with his jab...Hop jumps in and clinch..Calzaghe coming in with a jab, Hops throw his jab and clinch.

CALZAGHE DROPPING his hands down to his waist..Right hand/left off the ropes by Hopkins, Cazlaghe coming in but being met by Hopkins punches or a clinch. Counter left hook of the corner by HOpkins. Right to the body and head by Calzaghe. Jab/left hand by Calzaghe....

Calzaghe is coming back to win this.

 

Calzaghe won that one, too. Hopkins lands maybe 2 or 3 clean punches but the rest are low blows and headbutts. Calzaghe is more active and is landing more.

 

That was the first round i give Calzaghe.

 

Tough fight to watch and score.

Compubox says Calzaghe is outlanding Hopkins by a 2 to 1 ratio. :dunno:

for it to be 38-37 hopkins, Calzaghe has to hav won all the rounds except the first, right??? but even YOU thought Hopkins won the first the third and the fourth...
