He takes people down so hard and fast, and makes it look effortless. I dig his takedowns. He sure is a beast, although I picked Pierre to win in 2 rounds, Serra was even less competitive than I thought. He was made to look like a fucking punching bag with legs in that fight. Although I do agre with Azazel, that Pierre can be boring these days as he's strayed from his striking origins. A bit like Hatton, when he realized holding was an easy way of winning fights :: He was much more fun when he was more of a standup fighter. Still, it was an incredible performance, Serra didn't land a punch or do anything at all.
http://www.fightbeat.com/forums/showthread.php?t=22643 BTW, Go back to his TKO days, and he was a GnP fighter....
Striking with fancy kicks isn't a strategy used for every opponent. Sometimes you have to implement different gameplans, especially when a guy like Serra can drop you with 1 punch. I think GSP did very well last night proving he's the superior fighter.
Considering Serra has the LOWER Center of Gravity, it was EXTREMELY Impressive that GSP was Able to Take him to the Ground, Virtually AT WILL.... It's a SHAME he Isn't CONSISTENT, but GSP's "A" Game is SUPERIOR to Anybody Else's... REED
I tell you what, I've got a file folder with all of his TKO fights that I could send you....maybe thats what got peoples attention, but Georges best weapon has always been his ground and pound....1 spinning back kick in a fight will always be easier to remember than 30 hammerfists and elbows, but that doesnt mean it was his main strength
WHile it's a question of "personal" definition, I remember him being hyped up as a standing phenom in his TKO days ( obviously, he also had good ground game for a novice ), and he considered himself as such St. Pierre’s pro MMA record now stands at a perfect 5-0, with one no contest with fellow UFC 48 cardmate Ivan Menjivar, he has come a long way from his first MMA bout, which was an amateur bout that took place when he was just 16 years old. “When I won my first amateur (MMA) fight. I was 16 years old and I beat a guy that was 25. I was only a Kyokushin Karate fighter and the guy I fought was a boxer. At the time my ground skills were very poor, I didn’t know nothing on the ground.†Georges won his fight by knockout, going low with several leg kicks and then going high with a Karate kick to the head. To this day much of the media has him pegged as a wrestler, or a Jiu Jitsu fighter, but he still considers himself a karate stylist at heart. His amateur MMA record stands at 4 wins and no losses.
