More details are emerging on Affliction's first promotional effort which is set for July 17 in Dallas are beginning to emerge. So far the only "announced" fights for the event are Tim Sylvia v. Fedor Emelianenko and Matt Lindland v. TBA. The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reported that Sylvia's payout for the event is rumored to be $800,000. Other names rumored to be attached to the promotion/card are Andrei Arlovski, Josh Barnett, and Ben Rothwell. Sources tell MMAPayout.com that the total bankroll for the event may approach $5-6 million.

Yea.If this is true,he'll make more in this fight than he would fighting 12 fights in the UFC

And now I heard through the grapevine that Zuffa is going to cut out anything evolving Affliction off there shows:lol::laughing: If they think there going to give up there sponsor, which probly pays them more than the UFC does, then they really have let this thing go to there heads. It won't be a pretty situation,GSP and other's that are signed with affliction would go apeshit and walkout!!:shit:

That's some incredible paycheque but I ask how much profit, if any, will they generate with this show? No other mma circuit has seen sh*t in terms of a profit, most of them are folding, and Elite and IFL have lost up to 30 million thus far.
Where are they getting the kind of money to be paying 5-6 million to these fighters on this card? For all I know, they could go bust after this one like ther rest of the circuits out there.

There's a lot more to being succesful then putting on a good card. Look at Dream. Their LWGP is awesome with some of the best fighters in the world, and chances are better then 50/50 that they won't last the year.

Its a shame, there's not enough fans who actually like the sport to support these orgs. The UFC's fanbase is based on bandwagoners,as soon as something new and hip starts they'll jump off.

His hate for the UFC. This company will lose money. Overpaying fighters isn't the way to last when you are just starting out. Don't believe me just ask Bodog who lost tons and overpaid guys like Fedor and Linland. UFC on the other hand should pay more but there cheap asses don't. They know there's no other REAL competition for them.

If they treat there fighters better than I wouldn't hate them so much.I'm all for the well being of the fighters, there the ones I want to see on TUF/PPV/FN not Dana White. The Zuffa wants UFC fans to root for the company instead of the fighters.

You know there's alot of posers that watch the UFC TFK,as an example ,I go to a sportsbar and ask them who Fedor Emelianenko is or I'll bring up other orgs and they'll look at you like your crazy. I give the UFC credit for selling there product to these type of fans, thats why there the most profitable promotion in the world right now.I just don't think they'll stick around once the fad dies down I could be wrong though

Honestly, Fedor is pretty unknown in this country, to all but hardcore fans. But that doesn't mean UFC's fanbase is gonna jump off the bandwagon in a few years. It just means Fedor hasn't had much exposure in America.

It just sounds like wishful thinking on your part.

BYG is right about one thing. The UFC has many "Fad Fans". I see the same thing at sports bars. Many of them have no idea what the WEC is, nor do they know who the HW champ is at the moment. They watch the UFC, not because they love MMA but because they think saying they saw the last UFC fight is cool. Now don't get me wrong, I don't think the UFC is going anywhere, but I do think many of their fans are the teeny bopper cool kid croud.

Or maybe they could just be new fans who are still learning about the sport.

You can't expect everyone the know everything about MMA right off the bat.

Why wouldn't UFC be around in 5 years? If any of the MMA groups are gonna still be around, it's the UFC.

I bet the Fertittas and Dana will sell the UFC while the price is still high, before it flounders.

It's possible, but I doubt it.

If anything, the Fertittas would probably sell their stake to White. I don't see Dana White leaving the UFC anytime soon, he loves the attention too much.

But I don't see any ownership changes anytime soon.

I didn't say it would happen anytime soon. I'm just wondering where it'll be in 3 years. Dana hasn't really demonstrated good judgement lately. He's still hated by many fighters and more are leaving his company. Last thing you want to do is create rifts with fighters who are responsible for the success of your company. That's what he's done.
The UFC brand is established and can sell itself. But for how long is the question. Because interest tends to die down eventually, everything has its up and down cycle.
