mayweather is one of the best jr. light/lightweights i've seen. he was still awesome at 140 and very good at 147 although not quite unbeatable. how is he still in his prime?

He is not at his best weight, but he is still very close to his prime as a fighter.

It's easy to gloat about being the best in a sh*t division when you're ducking anybody who can knock your f*ckin' ass out. Instead, going out and fighting little guys, old men, and bums while gloating about being the best fighter who ever lived. And his fans buy all that sh*t cause they're so desperate to embrace a 'superstar' seeing that most everybody else has either retired or faded. You know the sport is in the sh*tter when Floyd "Charisma-Free" Mayweather Jr is one of the biggest 'stars'.

Thing about Floyd is that his whole aura revolves around his unblemished win streak. Once this guy gets KTFO, just watch EVERYBODY completely trash his resume. They'll say "This guy was always a bum, he fought bums, old men, and shot fighters." He was a guy jumping from one division to the next, handpicking the right fights at the right time and picking up crappy little belts and parading about being ALL THAT.
When he gets KTFO, he's gonna get it real bad from the press, even worse than Roy Jones did. "Yeah, what wars did you fight, what great fighters did you beat in their primes?"
Nothing! Nobody! The guy's career will be in shambles!

i dont get it. he beat oscar in one of the most anticipated fights in a decade capturing his 5th division world title. he then stops an unbeaten ricky hatton (whom more than a few actually picked him to win) and then people start blaming on the weight when in fact, floyd started out at 130!

now people are bitching about a potential cotto fight when cotto nor his promoter is even calling him out!

i'd certainly liked to have seen the margarito fight, but i mean let's face it, is mayweather really wasting the last stages of his career by not facing margarito (one of my favorite fighters by the way) or miguel cotto (whose resume thus far isn't yet hall of fame worthy)?

The rest is fine but (a) even in the ranks of paper titles, whatever he won doesn't mean a damn thing (b) granted it had 2.1 million buyers, but I would class it more as an anticipated "event" rather than fight, were there that many on this forum who were anticipating it as they might trinidad-vargas or Hopkins, or even that other event, RJ-Ruiz?

It doesn't matter if Floyd started out at 130. The fact is, Ricky couldn't fight at 147 where the fight took place. He's garbage up there, everything he does in the ring is nullified at that weight because he's a small man with no power in that class. And he doesn't have any other redeeming qualities to carry him. It's either "Bull you over" or get f*cked up!

bullshit, how is hatton garbage at 147? just because he failed to impress in his FIRST fight at that weight against a world class opponent (a title holder at that)?

hatton looked like shit against collazo from the opening round, but against floyd, you could tell early on that he was much better prepared.

what if hatton had fought ben tackie at 147 and whupped his ass? or how about if he fought urkal or baldomir and didnt look as bad as he did vs. a slick guy in collazo?

as if it would've made a difference at 140? floyd would've whupped his ass worse at 140 when the fight was first proposed a few years ago.

floyd DOMINATED at 130. i dont ever recall casamayor or freitas calling him out. floyd took on the best at 135 in his debut and again right afterwards. he fought demarcus corley in his first fight at 140.

and there were so many clamoring for the gatti fight at 140 and some even went out of their way to pick gatti via knockout!

of course when it's all set and done, floyd comes out w/ an easy W, yet he gets shitted on afterwards.

You knew the fight was at 147 and you still predicted Ricky would win.

BTW Ricky turned down the fight at 140.

I remember people saying Gatti was just TOO Big for little Floyd..

Floyd DOMINATED him worse than the much bigger DLH did!

    Not Really...

It's Hard to FROWN Upon Floyd's Last 3 Fights, though Naysayers Persist...

He Won the "Linear" Title from Baldomir, Pocketing 8 mil...Beat DeLa N the BIGGEST FIGHT EVER, Pocketing 20 mil or So...Took Hatton's "0" N Another High Profile Fight, Pocketing Another 10-15 Mil...

"Floyd Mayweather" is Now a HOUSEHOLD Name, No Matter WHO Assisted N Getting him There...Bottom Line is HE'S THERE...

If Anything, he's Taken his Career to the APEX, N his Prime...Now, he Needs to Put some Finishing Touches on it...Taking Cotto's "0" would B Perfect...Even the Naysayers COULDN'T Bitch Anymore, if Floyd Did that...

floyd's resume by the time he was 27

TKO8 Genero Hernandez (top 130 pounder at the time)
TKO2 Angel Manfredy (legitimate #1 contender)
TKO10 Diego Corrales (p4p level fighter future three time champ)
W12 Jose Luis Castillo (top lightweight, future two time champ)
W12 DeMarcus Corley (top 5 or 6 jr. welter)
TKO6 Jesus Chavez (top 5 contender and future champ)
W12 Carlos Hernandez (top 10 contender and future champ)
W12 Goyo Vargas (top 10 contender)

In all of these fights, how many rounds did Floyd lose?

Cotto's resume thus far include 4 of floyd's left overs including corley, judah, juuko, and sosa.

    his other notable wins include:

    W12 Mosley (36 years old)
TKO8 Abdulaev (who sucked as pro)
TKO7 Ricardo Torres (almost getting himself KOed in several occasions)
W12 Maliganaggi (who can't punch for shit)

and the rest include a bunch of hasbeens or losers.

Floyd was already a p4p entrant by the time he was 21.

floyd doesnt give a shit about fighting the 'best'. he knows he'd beat them all. the oscar fight was a MEGA fight that garnered millions of people, followed up by the hatton fight which was also super and drew international interest.

    Margarito...maybe/maybe not.

Wright...definitely not. Why would he? The only reason he fought at 154 was to fight Oscar. He was looking for mainstream name recognition, something that Wright can never provide.
