What I saw was a guy who stuck the jab out great Still has great speed threw a variety of different punches had an INCREDIBLE workrate the only knock I have on Oscar was that his face didnt react well to some of Stevie Forbes punches and he didnt get a KO but we all know Oscar can punch so that doesnt mean much IMO..he did hurt forbes a couple of times but man..Oscar was breaking down a very slick fighter...Forbes is a tough guy to fight and Oscar damn won every single round..i had it 11 to 1 Mayweather will have his hands full...especially if Oscar can stay busy for 12 rounds the way he did against Forbes and especially if he sticks that jab out like that
no surprise here. a notorious rider of delapartimers johnson was impressed. delahoyas poor stanima* will kick in when he faces a more difficult target. hitting air is always more tiring.
He looked alright. I wasn't really impressed nor did I think he looked that bad either. DLH going a solid 12 was a plus, however.
I think he looked real good, too. But he's not beating Mayweather. He'd beat just about everyone else, though.
His stamina was better, probly because he looked Alot leaner than he did against Floyd IMO....but other than that he looks the same like he has the past 4 years.
Are you kidding me???:notallthere: Well I guess its tough to abandon your favorite fighter. All I know is that 6 years ago, this guy would have been stopped in 4 rounds by Oscar. The only thing Mayweather will have his hands full with is the blood from Oscar's face come September.
DLH did a fine job against a cautious opponent. 12 solid rounds after a year layoff, at one point looked like he might be the first to plant Forbes on his ass. Did the majority of his damage with the jab. Had Forbes fought with any real aggression DLH would have stopped him. He got red in the face and had a cut open on his nose that he had during training so that really didn't mean much. Lighter skin people can get red faced like that from simply drinking alcohol or any tense situation as the vessels constrict. Big whoopdydoo ... he out fought Forbes from beginning to end and IMO won nearly every round with only a couple even close.
I think alot of you are underrating Forbes if De La Hoya had come out flat we would have witnessed an all time great getting beaten to the punch and outboxed but Hoya was sharp as hell and outclassed Forbes....notice i used the word outclassed Hoya didn't use his size or even superior punching power...he just outskilled a an opponent who was very tough Hoya has to come out of this fight very confident....he went 12 rounds at an incredible pace and his jab was SCARY...his jab will be KEY in defeating mayweather in the rematch
yeah mayweather battered and bloodies hoya's face the first time right? what the hell are you talking about
Exactly... Fuck that HBO Listing, Forbes is CLOSER to 5'5 than the 5'7 1/2 he was Listed @...Forbes Should B Fighting NO HIGHER than 140 these Days... His Level of SPEED was COMPROMISED by Fighting @ 150, as was his Footwork...& the Guy COULDN'T Punch a Lick @ 130, Nevermind @ Jr. Middle... DeLa was "Impressive" Against an UNDERSIZED Foe who Posed Absolutely NO THREAT to him... It was COMICAL Hearing HBO Rationalize that Shit AND Comparing Forbes to Mayweather...They're Both BLACK & Fought @ 130, but that's where the Similarities END... Forbes Went the Distance w/DeLa, just as he Did w/Grady Brewer...So How is that "Impressive"???... REED
Yeah he is, and the funny thing is, Lampley and crew knew it :: Lamps said on the tale of the tape "Oscar has a 3 inch height advantage... we actually think it's more than that, but um... these are the measurements" ::
I agree with you completely. Forbes wouldn't take any risk for fear of getting knocked out so DLH did the next best thing and beat on him for 12 rounds. Oscar looked in great shape; he retained energy through 12 rounds; and his jab and left hook looked great. The thing I love about Oscar is that he is this overtly effeminate dude outside the ring, but the minute the bell rings, he really is a FIGHTER. He wants to inflict damage and he has a tremendous heart. If the Mayweather fight comes off in September as predicted, I think Oscar will again give a good showing for himself. It will be close and how Oscar finishes will again decide the fight.
Oscar looked like shit! His defense looked worse than ever, and he busts up more now. If Floyd really opens up on him in the rematch, he might just stop him! Manny Steward was on crack as usual saying Oscar looked like he did 10 years ago.  The Oscar of 10 years ago woulda stopped Forbes within 6. Oscar looked like an old man tonight I dont give a fuck what HBO says!
Thank you xpolosive. I thought he look like shit as well. Forbes beat Oscar up more than he has ever been(as far as marks on his face) I kept wondering why Manny kept saying that Oscar was impressive, then I remembered he has turned into a corp puppet. Hell, even Merchant called him out at one point and said something like, "I am suprised to hear you say that Manny." Anyway, we all know Oscar does not get up for tune up fights. He did not look it great shape to me. He look soft and drained. He will look better in the Mayweather rematch. I still say he has as much chance to beat Floyd as anyone. I was the one to say Cotto would get spanked by Floyd, but I also think Cotto has a good chance of beating Oscar down at this point.
Interesting. So do you believe that Oscar will win every round against Mayweather in which he is able to muster a complete effort?
i think alot of people are not getting it Mayweather Sr. is gonna implement this same plan hoya had against forbes and translate it to Mayweather...he said it himself De La Hoya threw damn near 800 punches in this fight and we got some clowns such as my box Xplosive saying he looked like shit? fuck that..im gonna say it now...if Oscar comes at Floyd like he did with Forbes he is gonna beat Mayweather..ya ya ya..i know Floyd does everything better except 2 things people..floyd wont be throwing as many shots as forbes did AND..floyd doesn not have the chin that forbes has actually if hoya comes with the same plan im almost 100 percent sure he will beat mayweather..i have not been so sure without a doubt in my mind
Forbes is a good fighter, but much of what he did Saturday night defensively was cover his face with his gloves and let DLH lands combos to the body...against MAYWEATHER POLLO will be hitting a whole lot of air...Mayweather will be moving around/covering up/slipping punches/shoulderollin'/ all the shits... IF DLH comes out against Mayweather like he did against Forbes throwing 800 punches, bouncing on his toes..etc......he gets TKO in the late rounds by Mayweather....he will be soooo fucking tired it will be target practice for Money...
De La Hoya doesn't need to stay busy for 12 rounds to win a decision, he needs to be busy for about 6 or 7, but they can't all be in the first 6-7 rounds.
some of you DLH Cock smokers are funny.. watch the floyd fight again with DLH.. Floyd dominated him.. he'll beat him even more this time around if they fight
true hoya could get tired...but Hoya has that jab that he can fall back on if need be to keep mayweather at bay and continue to dominate
Riiiight .... U Ever Heard of a "Pull Counter"???...It's Perhaps THE Most Effective Weapon to Use AGAINST a Jab & Floyd is a MASTER @ Executing it... If DeLa had Used his Jab Loooooooong Enough N the 1st Fight, Floyd would have Eaten him Alive w/Pull Counters... It's Pretty Obvious U WANT DeLa to Win...Too Bad for U he ISN'T... REED
de la hoya gets too tensed when he's facing a guy who's just as good if not better. he may or may not provide the same effort as he did in the first fight, but i expect another mayweather victory come september. hopefully, the odds will be close for me to win some money.
Amen Joon.. DLH looked more relaxed and comfortable in there the other night cuz it was STEVIE FORBES!
True actually. Against top opposition he does look very stiff and tense, he thinks too much, and he is not relaxed at all. Sort of the opposite of Joe Calzaghe actually.
