If you ask Hector Camacho Jr. about his fighting career he would probably tell you himself that it’s been unfulfilling up to this point. It seems like just yesterday that Camacho was in his early twenties, gracing the HBO airwaves as an extremely talented and undefeated Jr. Welterweight on the rise. During that time in his life the opinions on Camacho were varying but they were always strong. Some loved Camacho for his flair and charisma while others felt that the sport of boxing would ultimately prove too much to stomach for the Spanish Harlem native. Things took a turn for the worse for Camacho following a disappointing No Contest against Jesse James Leija in July of 2001. Camacho failed to answer the bell for the 6th round because he claimed his vision was affected by a cut caused by an unintentional head butt. The critics claimed that Camacho was looking for an easy way out of the fight and they labeled him a quitter. In the following years Camacho’s focus and desire began to wane. Following a 2002 loss to Argentinean Omar Weiss, Camacho would later put on some unnecessary weight and suffer some more unexpected losses before disappearing from the public’s eye. http://fightbeat.com/article_detail.php?AT=637
Pretty sure there was no cut. As I remember, Camacho claimed the headbutt affected his vision/made him dizzy and the ref accepted this as a legit reason to stop the fight and go to the cards for a technical decision. Camacho legitimately won. Then people made a fuss about him 'quitting' and the fight was changed to a No Contest. I don't know if blurred vision/dizziness is a legit reason to go to the cards if a fighter says he can't continue, but I've assumed it is since this fight. Perhaps it is not and that is the reason the fight was changed to a No Contest, but I don't think that's why it was changed.
It was changed to an NC, because Camacho failed the post fight physical. The medical staff discovered a vagina, putting the commission's pre-fight check's into serious question.
