There is a nice conversation with Duran in this article by Reed that's pretty funny. Here is part of it. An interpreter who works with Ricardo Mayorga was sitting next to Duran, so I figured I’d ask the original master of machismo his thoughts on a fight with Mayorga, the latest practitioner. “Duran, 2 round.” Since Mayorga was known for his pre-fight and press conference antics, I asked “Hands of Stone” what would happen if Mayorga was bold enough to provoke him in such a manner. This particular answer was longer, so after attempting English, Duran spoke to the interpreter who relayed the message. “He says if Mayorga talked trash to him, he’d knock him out at the press conference and there wouldn’t be a fight. And if they actually fought, Mayorga wouldn’t last 2 rounds.” That was the G-rated version of the translation, I was told. READ THE FULL STORY http://fightbeat.com/article_detail.php?AT=638
REED is SURPRISED Cupey Didn't Edit Duran's Thoughts on Trinidad:: ... Duran is a Fucking RIOT!!!...He DEFINITELY Went Up a Few Notches on REED's "Favorite Fighters" List... & Boom Boom Mancini is a Sweet Heart...& SMALL!!!... REED:cheer:
Fucking hell REED you lucky bastard, well done. I would love to meet Duran, I'd love it. "“Duran vs. Felix Trinidad?†“1 round. Trinidad no chin.†He lightly punched his own chin and shook his head “no†for emphasis. " :: ::
Worried, I don´t know why just because he knocked out a horse with one try Worried, don´t be so shy your name is not Sly.
His Aura is WEIRD, Mex...But U'd LOVE It... All in One, Duran is JOVIAL, FUNLOVING, APPROACHABLE, yet there's NO DOUBT he Could Whip ANYBODY N the Room...& there's an Underlying SERIOUSNESS to his Statements...He's FUNNY, yet he MEANS What he Says, U Know???... & Even Though he's an Old, Short, FAT Bastard These Days, Duran STILL Had that "Fire" N his Eye's when Imagining Himself N the Ring w/those Guys... REED Met Duran BRIEFLY N the Past, but Never Conversed w/Him...REED had SEVERAL Doses of Liquid Courage B 4 Approaching him like that, but Dude was ULTRA Cool...He Got a Kick Out it Himself...He Even Asked REED "Who Else?", after REED Stopped Questioning Him... REED's Lucky Enough to have Interacted w/Holyfield, Floyd, Donald Curry, Joe Frazier & a Couple Others...But the Other Day w/Duran was BY Faaaaaaaaar the COOLEST Experience of REED's Boxing Life... REED:cheer:
Bloody hell :: He was usually listed as 5'7 wasn't he? Occasionally 5'8, it looks like his majority listing is accurate.
Awesome :bears: I'm glad to hear it. Just from his fights and various footage/interviews I've seen of him, the guy has charisma and presence coming out of his arse. The first time I ever saw him fight was enough for me, I was hooked, hypnotised, he was instantly my favourite fighter.
Duran's a SHORT Guy, but REED wasn't Shocked by his Shortness...He's as WIDE as he is Tall Though:: ... Now Boom Boom Mancini SHOCKED REED w/his SHORTness...He's a LITTLE Guy...Can't B Any Taller than 5'5 or So...The ONLY Thing "Big" on Ray Manicini were his FISTS... He Told REED he Weighed about 150 these Days... REED
Well, Dallas ISN'T Much Better than Calgary, Steve-Dave... We have the T.R.E.C. Event 1nce a Year, a Bunch Of Otherwise MEANINGLESS Club Shows Featuring Guys w/LOSING Records, Maybe "Golden Boy" will Throw Us a Bone Every Other Year or So, & a Guy like Holyfield will Come to Town Every 10 Years... Dallas ISN'T a "Boxing" Town by ANY Stretch of the Imagination...That's why the FOCUS of REED's Article was on his Interaction w/Duran, as OPPOSED to the Fights themselves... REED::
It's All about Perspective, Dog... REED Interviewed Shelby Gross 1nce, who Got DESTROYED by Dale Brown:dunno: ...Brown was a GOOD Fighter N a TOUGH Crusierweight Era... No Shame N that... REED
Great job, REED. You are a lucky guy to have talked with those two. I would love to ask Duran about Esteban DeJesus if I ever have the opportunity to speak with him a bit.
Funny story about Dale... We were watching the Briggs/Lyachovich (sp?) fight... he noticed that Sergei has one loss and he asked me who it was to. Being the boxing encyclopedia that I am, I told him he lost to Maurice Harris. Dale looked over at me and laughed... he had knocked Harris out easily. It was kinda cool to watch a heavyweight "title" fight with someone who had dominated the only guy who had defeated the champ.
The funny thing is, the Holyfield fight that you guys got vs. Savarese was originally supposed to be in Calgary.
Is Dale a COOL Dude???... He LOOKS like he'd B the Type that's NOT Really a "People Person"...Not Terribly Outgoing or Engaging... REED
Dallas Got Holyfield-Jeremy Bates... Holyfield-Savarese AND Holyfield-Oquendo were Both N San Antonio, if REED's Not Mistaken... REED
He's quiet... but once he warms up to you, he's a very nice and honest guy. You can tell he was hurt really deep by the gift Bell got when they fought. He was blown away when Bell stopped Mormeck. He really thought Bell was awful, and Mormeck had handled Dale pretty handily.
