I watched the Frazier vs Foreman I fight again.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kpEuGaRp9l8

At 1:43 Foreman throws a jab, rightcross, lefthook combination followed by a jab, right uppercut, left hook combination. Than he throws to more jabs forllowed by an uppercut. Very devastating combinations. He throws them quite fast and accurate too. Foreman was lean, agile and athletic at that age. He was a force. His athleticm is being underrated.

In the beginning of the fight Foreman is a bit tentative. He tries to keep Joe at a distance and pushes him back a couple of times. Joe Frazier throws some fast and powerfull lefthooks. Some of them hit Foreman. Foreman is gaining ground though. His punches start to land and they seem to rattle Joe. After Joe was floored, George went all out. Foreman showed some impressive stamina. Joe was beaten down another four times. Joe Frasier showed great heart by constantly getting up from each knockdown and willing to continue.

Did you think the discription was OK and summarizes the fight well?

Right, but they weren't very fast or accurate. In fact none of them landed flush, he unded up getting knocked down by a single mammoth uppercut after those combos.

Foreman was a beast, but he was not particularly quick or athletic or fluid, just a hell of a puncher, with guts, aggression, good size, and a chin.

You are doing the same thing. You are underrating his athlecism. At 1:43, you can see that his punches are quite fluid too. Especially the left hooks that ended the combinations. His jab was quite crisp aswell. He is quicker than you give him credit for. He only weighed 220 lbs (even less I believe). That isn't too big compared to todays standards but I am sure he would knockout all heavyweights today, including Wladimir Klitschko. He would just storm at him like Sanders did and knock him on his ass.

No, I am seeing foreman for what he was.

I've seen that fight several times but I watched the 1:43 mark you quoted, and there was nothing fast or fluid about those combos, and the punches didn't even land clean.

They indeed didn't land but they were fast, powerfull and quite fluid. I think that many will disagree with you. I think many will disagree with you. It is a pretty impressive showing of power and speed. He threw three punches in less than a second. Two of the three punches packed humongous power.

Foreman was so strong, he didn't even have to land clean punches to put dudes on their asses.

I like how Foreman right at the beginning of the fight throws a low hard body shot.. misses but he throws it like Naz used to throw a "Chin checker" although Foremans was aimed near the body.. smart as Joe comes in all low and funky

I wish that Foreman were around today, so he could knock Wlad's head off.

Yes, a robot much smaller than him who moves at the speed of a sloth, I can see how it's a given, if only Wlad hit anywhere near as hard as Ali or Ron Lyle.

 The 'golden age' is overrated.

Frazier was a moron. After the 4th or 5th knock down you would figure he might try to clinch and buy some time. But Joe just keeps trying to wing the left hook and keeps getting clipped.

This was one of the first fights I watched with my father. I remember at the time my dad was ecstatic. He hated Ali and after George destroyed Frazier, he just knew Foreman would shut Ali's mouth.

Wlad was knocked out by Corrie Sanders and Brewster and dropped three times by Samuel Peter. These things hapen in boxing. Prime Foreman would go after Wlad throwing haymakers with huge power and UNDERRATED speed. He punches much more accurate than he has been given credit for. Prime Foreman would probably knockout Wlad within three rounds.

Well a prime George with today's training would probably be a solid 235-240. But even at the 221 range he fought at in the 70's, he would still blast Wladimira. Clit would be pissing his pants prior to the bell, and when George rushes at him, he'd fall apart as usual. 73 Foreman blasts Wlad in under 3 rounds.

SIZE is whats really overrated. If size was the end of all of everything, then Wladimira and Micheal Grant would both be all time greats.

These "big" heavyweights of today are bums!

The only two truly talented "big" heavyweights theres ever been were Lewis, and Bowe. Wladimira, and Golota are/were also talented, but Wlad has no chin, and Golota was a mental midget.

Bowe's overrated size worked a wonderous treat on Holyfield, conquerer of the invincible Iron-Mike Tyson, etc etc,..I can provide the flipside for everything if your argument is going to be based on selective focus, you 'golden age' groupies are saying that Wlad would just stand there and let Foreman hit him flush in the head, well that is just a self serving fantasy isn't it?, considering some of those appauling fights that Foreman has been in himself, blah blah blah but Wlad has a glass chin, look at this fight and that fight bla bla bla, I was shocked at the mere soft love-tap from Ali that knocked Foreman the fuck out, ....jesus,.......did he quit?.. I dont think that would even equate to Wlad's hardest jab  really, there cannot be a way it's a 'gimme' that Foreman, or any of the other overrated 'golden age' midgets and I quote you "MASSACRE EVERYBODY AND EVERYTHING WITHIN ONE FUCKING ROUND AAAAAA!!!".... No top heavyweight, in ANY era, would be just a tomato can in another era, it's an irrational outburst, so please, take it easy.

What you fail to notice there is that the size of opponents has grown too. Throw Michale Grant to 1950s and he is a killer

 I love it when this argument comes. Now of course having only size hasn't ever made anyone great but at some point the difference in size makes up for the difference in technique. I just don't see it being a coincidence that fighters have always been bigger copared to the past generation but maybe it is.

Carnera didn't have any tehnique yet he was a top fighter because of his size. Now Valouev is pretty much the same although he is vastly bigger than Carnera and has more athletic abilities. That's what he needs fighting the modern guys

Let's not forget that Foreman was a giant in his time with his 6'4. The average hight in the 70's was less than it is now. If he was born a few decades later, he would have probably been a few inches taller because of better nutrition. He would have probably been 6'6 or 6'7. Still, with his 6'4, he is only two inches shorter than Wladimir Klitschko. Prime Foreman would charge on Wladimir like Sanders did and Wlad won't have an answer.

If Foreman is 6'4, he'd KO Wlad in 2 rounds.

IMO, he's more like 6'2 so he KO's Wlad in 4 rounds.

2 inches buys you 2 rounds?

what if he is 6'2.5 ? does he KO Wlad LATE in the second round?
