According to reports, he's seeking help for his campaign from Rudy Giuliani. From the NY Times: May 8, 2008 Giuliani Weighs In on Distant Mayoral Race By SEWELL CHAN Who would have guessed that the next chapter in Rudolph W. Giuliani’s life would involve political consulting for an election in Eastern Europe? Mr. Giuliani, the former mayor and former presidential candidate, called a news conference Wednesday in Times Square to appear with Vitali Klitschko, a former boxing and kickboxing champion who is running for mayor of Kiev, Ukraine’s capital Calling Mr. Giuliani “a huge name,†Mr. Klitschko, 36, said he hoped to make Kiev a modern city “like Paris, like London, like New York.†Mr. Giuliani said Mr. Klitschko’s campaign had approached his company for advice on policies to combat corruption. Neither Mr. Giuliani nor Mr. Klitschko would disclose how much the Ukrainian candidate’s campaign is paying the former mayor or his company, Giuliani Partners. Mr. Giuliani said that his staff members would travel to Kiev next week and would produce a report about what lessons Kiev can draw from other cities, including New York. “They need a leader like you who can deal with corruption, who can deal with reform of government, which is so necessary,†Mr. Giuliani told Mr. Klitschko. The former mayor said he could not have imagined “a more appropriate place†to hold the news conference than the television studio of the Nasdaq building, near the corner of Broadway and 43rd Street. “Nasdaq is part of what I was talking about with you earlier: the rejuvenation of Times Square,†Mr. Giuliani reminded Mr. Klitschko. “Reform is possible if you have the right candidate and the right set of ideas,†he said. “Kiev can accomplish this. It needs a leader who is determined to do it and a leader who has shown success in so many other areas.†He said Mr. Klitschko reminded him of his successor, Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg, and of Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger of California — both were new to politics when they ran for office. In March 2006, several months after announcing his retirement from boxing, Mr. Klitschko entered the campaign for mayor of Kiev, a city of about three million people, on an anticorruption platform. He finished second to Leonid Chernovetsky in a crowded race, winning about 25 percent of the vote. As he campaigns again in a new election, scheduled for May 25, polls suggest that he is gaining support. Paul Myerberg contributed reporting.
Shelly Finkel, would tell MaxBoxing “Dino Duva, Don King, Tom Loeffler, and I concluded a deal today – It’s a co-promotion. The fight will happen before October 11th. The site is not set. My gut feel is that it will be in Nigeria or Germany.â€
Pretty much. So, another year where the # of heavyweight title fights in Germany far outweighs those in the U.S.
GREAT!!!... Now REED Can Get More MILEAGE Out of his Famous Title..."The KLIT or the PETER???...Which 1 Gets LICKED???"... REED:clap:
approximately...20-25 days before the fight...jesus willing...he will bend a wrist while hitting the heavybag...or hit his knuckles on the top board while hitting the speed bag.
They should just wrap him in formaldehyde and keep him on the coach with his legs up until fight night, then magic carpet him into the ring or have him carried in. That way, when he goes Michael Grant (vs. Jameel McCline) after the first punch lands, there can at least be a passable result and the rest of the division can move on.
WBC wasting more time. By the time Vitali postpones the fight people will bitch about the time wasted and will give Peter some stiff to fill in on a shitty card.
Honestly it´s not like Vitali is stopping anything. :dunno: Wladimir has to fight his mandatory challengers Thompson and Povetkin, so he´ll be busy till the ref has counted him out against Povetkin. Chagaev and Valuev have to reschedule their bout. Gomez and Virchis fight a WBC eliminator in September. Seven of the ten best heavyweights are already in scheduled bouts, so unless you want to see Ruiz out-point Peter, and become champion again, we better stick to the Vitali plan. ..... give me Haye vs. Ibragimov and Solis vs. Rahman and we have at least some competitive or intriguing match-ups. :bears:
What's the point of this for Vitali?.. to gain the belt, hold hands with his brother and say "Yay we did it".. and then return to politics straight away?.. ..Fuck that,.. I hope Peter knocks him out, if Vitali wins there is no way he'll be fighting on a consistant basis, so fuck him, his return is meaningless.
But Klitschko-Thompson and Chagaev-Valuev II are scheduled for the summer, meaning the winner could still fight again this year. Peter-Klitschko is for some time "before October 11". (I guess Peter is looking at a July fight...Donnell Holmes, Carl Davis Drummond, J.D. Chapman, Andrew Golota are possible opponents according to Dan Rafael.)
Yeah, that is the point...to simultaneously hold titles...they've said that from day 1. . Vitali is one of my favorite guys to watch so even if he doesn't fight often, fighting any is a plus.
Exactly. First off we need all the good fighters we can get in HW division and secondly Vitali is the far more exciting brother of the two. I personally welcome him back.
Vitali is pretty much a thug Based on how Oldeg manhandled Peter for periods of their fight, I think Vitali will stop him.
Me too. Based on that and how McCline had him all but out of there. How the hell McCline blew that one is beyond me. ::
