Probably Sugar Ray Robinson. I would rate him ahead of Tyson as a boxing icon.

Are we talking in terms of time order? First Ali, then later Tyson, and then...?

If so, DLH and RJJ are the closest I can think of tonight.:dunno:

For his time, Dempsey was up on that level as far as drawing power. Dude was hugely popular.

globally, i'd say that de la homo had less of an impact than roy, srl, and others.

but excuse me - i know you americans find it difficult to think outside your gaudy little "5%-of-the-world's-population" box. :cheer:

globally, ali and tyson have to be head and shoulders ahead of everyone else.

Floyd Mayweather jr, is the bestest most loveable most richest most sexiest most popular cross over super ultra mega star with mad street cred, I wish I were Floyd, Id love to be rich and popular and all that, I guess my intense focus and defensive demeanor upon his wealth and popularity helps feed the fantasy through an inlet to my heart and soul created by my love and obsession for him, the things I've craved for all my life.

    Sad shit, indeed [IMG].

Leonard was far more popular in the 80's than DLH ever was.

Joe Frazier? Everybody knows that name. They may not know the man but they would be familiar with the name and mostly in part due to Ali I would believe.
Ask anybody "Yo, who's Joe Frazier?" They'd say "Is he that boxer guy?"
His name goes beyond boxing. Bigger than any Roy Jones or De La Hoya.
Larry Holmes and George Foreman also transcended the sport.

Not DLH in my opinion. I'd say Frazier, Holmes and Foreman long before DLH. I asked somebody recently and they never heard of DLH which was a surprise. But they knew the name of Foreman and Frazier. The best era in boxing.
