It'll be Gonzalez's fourth fight since the Penalosa knockout. I can't believe Pastrana is still fighting. It's been over a decade since he beat Carbajal at light fly...and he was small for that weight class.::
REED was just Gonna Say, Pastrana's Toooooooo SMALL & OLD these Days... He's a "Name", but NATHAN More... REED
Pastrana did have that nice KO of Escalante recently enough in his career, he won't have much for Gonzalez however
Maurico Pastrana is one of the best 'what could have been' fighters of my lifetime. He was an absolutely amazing fighter on his day. He ate his way out of a lot of money.
Well, the problem with him is that he was at his best at light fly but most of his fights against top opponents - and he fought a lot of them - came above that (many significantly above it).
seems unnecessary to downplay Pastrana's worth as a fighter. he wasn't the best, but he competed at a high level for a number of years while generally undersized and overmatched by the top competition around him. he has a pretty good list of oppenents, and gave nearly all of them excellent fights. i saw him beat carbajal in person and was a fan of his ever since. he is hanging on a bit too long now tho. he is going to start copping beatings
Patrana has a good chin so he'll probably go the distance but I can't envision anything but a shut-out in this fight given the height discrepancy and the fact that Pastrana's had 0 success north of flyweight.
That's certainly the intention when they made the match-up. Gonzalez is top 5 of three org so he's pretty close to another title fight.
