This card sorta reminds me of a Night of the Young Heavyweights card...and a bit of a reflection of the state of boxing (and the heavyweight division...because there aren't enough prospects to do one of those shows these days).

Those NOTY cards could generate a ton of hype for a prospect...Tua being a great example of this after the Ruiz knockout...and Merchant's line of "Marciano, Frazier and Tyson".

Gamboa has certainly recieved the most talk up to now and he has the kind of style that can create a ton of fan interest...if he can continue it as he progresses in competition.

Is he the automatic star of the show, or does anybody see one of the other fighters having a performance that surpasses the Cuban's?

    This is the line-up:

    James Kirkland vs. Eromosele Albert
    Yuriorkis Gamboa vs. Darling Jimenez
    Alfredo Angulo vs. Richard Gutierrez

Kirkland & Angulo BOTH have More Fan-Friendly Styles than Gamboa...Gamboa IS Fan-Friendly Himself, but he's Not Nearly as RECKLESS as the Other 2...

Kirkland & Angulo Look to DESTROY U from the Outset...There's NEVER a "Feeling Out" Process w/those 2....

Kirkland has the Best Chance of LOSING, Cause he's Shown the Most VULNERABILITY Thus Far...So REED Thinks Angulo will "Steal" The Show....

Gamboa is the "Class" of the Show, but he's a Tad More DELIBERATE than Kirkland or Angulo....

gamboa. he's clearly the most skilled and talented of them all. his opponent just might be the second best fighter on that card.

^^^ agREED on Gamboa, though you might be overrating Jimenez just a tad. But he's easily on level with the other two perceived opponents.

If Gamboa fights as expected, then the fact that a 10-fight rookie can look that good against the most experienced guy on the card instantly becomes the evening's headline.

Aside from Cotto-Margarito, this is without a doubt my most anticipated card. I can't honestly see any of the 3 fights being less than exciting. But for some reason, I have a feeling that Kirkland vs. Albert is gonna steal the show.

there was no feeling out process in his last fight - he always goes for the kill in the first round if it doesn't happen he breaks them down... :dunno:

Gutierrez lost an MD to Josh Clottey - could people overlook him against Angulo - i think that's a 50:50 fight...

I didn't think he deserved a majority decision and I'm pretty confident Angulo beats him....maybe handily.

I think it's more likely that Jimenez is the 7th best fighter on the card (behind Mickey Bey, too) than it is he's the 2nd best fighter on the card.

Gamboa gets the most talk because he's still unknown to a lot of people and Jimenez is going to make him look good.

I'm more curious how Angulo looks. I can't tell if he is going to be Margarito good or Tito Mendoza 'bad.'

I think Gutierrez is going to outbox Angulo. That is the most even fight IMO. Gamboa will win easily.

Jimenez will KO this Gamboa guy. You have to be a hard motherfucker to go by the name of "Darling".

Looking Back, the BREVITY of Kirkland's Fight OR the 2-Way EXCITEMENT of Angulo's Fight is the "Talk", N REED's Opinion...

Gamboa IS Legit, but let's TEMPER the Enthusiasm just a Bit, Fellas...

Yeah, most of the talk has still been about Gamboa...even if it's basically to say his performance was underwhelming.

In fact, while Kirkland was the most dominant, he seems to have come out of it with the least amount of talk.

Angulo-Gutierrez was the best fight, so Angulo's getting chatter because of that...plus Gutierrez was considered by many the toughest of the opponents...whereas Albert was the least known of the "opponents" and didn't do much to suggest he was anything other than the weakest fighter on the card.

Regarding Gamboa, I think it's almost inevitable some people are down on him because of all the hype he'd recieved and some people don't want to see a prospect's flaws when they're first coming up and so that realization that the fighter does have flaws doesn't usually come until they're blatantly pointed out by an opponent, and while he's looked explosive early on it always has to be remembered who he's in with.

It's almost like watching Mark McGwire take batting practice when some of the knockout punchers begin their careers.
