Hopefully this DOESN'T Affect Versus' "Legends of the Ring" Series...REED's Made Some NICE Additions to his Fight Collection Because of it...

That was probably the best thing to come out of it.

Most of the match-ups weren't very good.

It's a smart move. Top Rank is established, so they got their feet wet while playing it safe. Now they know the ropes so they can go out there and get real fights. They can probably beat ESPN pretty easy.

It's good that the next deal won't be exclusive.

That should allow for better match-ups.

You are all spoiled for choice in the States when it comes to boxing coverage. Over here, comprehensive coverage can cost as much as €46 per month, not including PPV's....thats $63 per month, for openers. That said you could get MOST of the important stuff for $25, not including PPV's.

Yup. Top Rank was ripping them off. ESPN was putting on comparable fight cards for a small percentage of the cost Versus was spending.

I would love it if Versus went the MSG route and just cherry picked off the foreign telecasts of title fights (like tomorrow's card). Glad to see that they intend to remain in the boxing business. Unlike so many channels before them that have made the same claim, I think they actually will.
    .
The Top Rank fights on Vs weren't SO bad (well some of them), but it was just the announced price that Vs was paying for them that was so painful.

Agree on the foreign fights. MSG and ESPN Classic have picked up some recently, but Versus would be good outlet.

What REED Found MOST Interesting about this Release is the Signing of Lamont Peterson...

    So What about Anthony Peterson???...

They're both fighting on Top Rank cards.

I think Anthony is on the Torres-Holt II card.

Bruseles is a good step up for Lamont Peterson, who's in desperate need of a competition upgrade (ditto for Anthony). I expect Lamont to win handily, and finally begin to make some noise at 140, which would be quite a statement considering how loaded the division remains.

I was glad to hear VERSUS announce this (TR's deal expiring and no more exclusive deals being offered). I expect TR to remain in business, but eventually start bitching about other promoters (or at least ONE other promoter ) stealing his dates...

It will be way better if there are no exclusive deals. This way they can pick the better fights to air, it's better for their ratings and better for us.

Anthony Peterson might be the best at 135 within a year. He has alot of talent.
