Marquez "earned" the title shot with his win over Lorenzo, and the fight will happen later this year after Marquez heals. Fightnews:
I have no interest in seeing Abraham destroy Marquez just like I have no interest in watching Pavlik destroy Rubio. I just wish those two would get it on in the fall.
indeed this is a pointless fight and the sanctioning bodies are to blame for letting Abraham have to fight such a bum.
The sanctioning bodies are to blame for Abraham having a world title. Without them, or with The Ring running the show, Abraham would be rated about 8th right now and could expect a title shot in mid 2010 against 'the champ.'
Well, all this didn´t go according to plan. They were looking for a showcase eliminator for Lorenzo, nothing more. (Un)fortunately nobody told Marquez about his role.
It worked out for Warriors. Sure. Miranda got lit up, but they squeeze one more payday out of Marquez. My only regret is not picking the upset. I've never thought anything of Lorenzo, but didn't think he was THAT bad.
Or nobody told Lorenzo about his. Marquez was carved up by Keith Mulling and Yori Boy Campas over a decade ago. He may be more experienced now, but Lorenzo showed why he's been protected. How Lorenzo made it to the top 5 of any org at this point makes a mockery of the sanctioning bodies ranking's who had him there. He hadn't faced or beaten anybody. I do agree with mikE's point to some degree, though, one of the best things the sanctioning bodies do is make the sport a little less Americentric.
I guess it's back to ESPN for Pantera. The press releases confirming such will be sent out shortly. For their sake, at least they milked Kessler's name for as much they could.
Honestly, besides Arthur Abraham's die hard groupies, who else wants to see such a mismatch? Of course they will make the fight in Germany and it will be a sell out.
