    Quite surprising news.

Too bad it didn't happen earlier in Calzaghe's career.

What a shame he didn't do this seven years ago. Joe has shown now that he really was the goods, and all that over-protected crap up to Lacy were a terrible waste of talent.

Something has obviously gone on here, though. Werren making a mess of a RJJ negotiation or something, perhaps? :dunno:

Calzaghe should get that fight with RJJ.

Pavlik's undivided attention should be on Abraham.

One report suggests Warren was holding back some of the money from the Hopkins fight while trying to negotiate a new deal which pissed off Joe.

Like I said I never thought the Calzaghe/Jones fight could go down as long as Warren was around.

Interestingly, Roy himself said that there were problems between Joe & Frank last month, in addition to himself & Don (King reportedly owes Jones money from the Trinidad fight), so I now suspect the delay is solidifying this fight are the promoter squabbles on both sides.

No he's not, it's 'business' just like Frank said to him all those years.

all this means is that Calzaghe will be the next to sign with the Yanke... er, Golden Boy.

You think? I think he stays solo, at least for the potential Jones fight.

I was half-joking, but it won't surprise me to see him set up a shell company, which becomes "a subsidiary of Golden Boy Promotions"

yeah, there must of been a falling out otherwise he would have done this years ago....

can only speculate, but there is a number of things it could be about. Warren was negotiating a Pavlik fight with Arum....perhaps against Joe's will...Calzaghe has stated that RJJ is the fight he really wants.....however, i don't think Warren would fall out with Joe over this....afterall, business wise, Calzaghe-Jones is the bigger fight.

maybe Calzaghe has looked at Hatton and Haye, who have both gone down the self-promotion route, although it seems an odd time to be doing that now, with just the 1 fight Calzaghe intends to have

....my suspicion is that there has been a falling out, probably between frank and enzo. Enzo is very passionate and always thinks he's right (he still claims Macarinelli is better than Haye)....maybe enzo was upset about the Lockett-Pavlik match.....there was Lockett, one of Enzo and Frank's fighters, getting fed to the lion, and the minute the fight is over Warren is talking about Calzaghe-Pavlik.

It's pure speculation by myself, what is interesting....and perhaps most worrying for Warren is what the rest of the Calzaghe team do....Pryce, Rees, Maccarinelli, Cleverly and Lockett are amongst Frank's best names, and decent ticket sellers.

I see Maccarinelli is fighting along with Alex Arthur in september, so perhaps i am making 5 out of 2 and 2, but then again he's probably contractually obliged for that fight

According to several UK news outlets, including The Sun , Joe Calzaghe is slated to fight Roy Jones Jr. on September 20 in Las Vegas.

The paper says that Calzaghe, who recently cut ties with longtime promoter Frank Warren, was given the open date by HBO. The network was trying to fill the void left by Floyd Mayweather Jr, who was scheduled to face Oscar De La Hoya on the September date, but announced his retirement from the sport a few weeks ago. Rather than keep the date, De La Hoya moved his ring return to December 6. That left HBO with an open slot to fill.

The report notes that Golden Boy Promotions will help Calzaghe co-promote the fight with the MGM Grand being the likely venue to host it.

Calzaghe, now working as a free agent, made it clear yesterday that he was only interested in fighting Jones.

"I am the only person who can make negotiations for my next fight," Calzaghe said. "Regarding that fight, I am not in negotiations with Kelly Pavlik, despite reports to the contrary. My intention is to fight Roy Jones Jr, a four-weight world champion fighter. That would be a special event for me against a legend of the sport."

Guardian Unlimited reports that Warren is going to hold a meeting with Calzaghe in an effort to save their relationship that lasted over twelve-years.

The date doesn't sound right - Casa-Marquez either isn't as done as everyone's suggestion, or the date's already moving - but Golden Boy sinking their claws into this event was all but a given.

I don't think the fight will happen in September either. WRT GB....given that Don King's in the picture, can't imagine Jones agreeing to Golden Boy also getting in on the action.

Yeah...somebody ask Calzaghe why he's finally realized he needs to come over here to make money and be a star. Funny how he couldn't do that in his prime...

Anyway, glad to see this fight is happening. At LHW too...perfect.
