LOS ANGELES, June 27, 2008 - Mexico celebrated its independence from Spain on the historic date of September 16, 1810 and over the years, this day has grown to become a special day of celebration, especially in the world of sports and entertainment. This year, the boxing world will celebrate Mexico's Independence Day when reigning Ring Magazine World Lightweight Champion Joel “El Cepillo†Casamayor meets former two-division World Champion Juan Manuel Marquez Saturday, Sept. 13 at MGM Grand in Las Vegas , Nev. in a 12-round championship bout that celebrates the best of the sweet science and two of its greatest practitioners http://fightbeat.com/news_details.php?NW=21697
HBO is truly fucked up, and crooked for having this fight on PPV. Considering that Jones-Calzaghe will be on PPV the week after. I can understand Jones-Calzaghe being PPV because both are big names, but Casa-Marquez should definitely be regular HBO. Who the fuck can afford all this shit? HBO is fucking up the sport with these bullshit PPV's! And it will serve them right because this fight will bomb TERRIBLY on PPV!
The blame should probably be directed more towards Golden Boy, because Marquez, Casamayor, Mosley and perhaps Calzaghe (if not a G fighter, then he might at least be associated with them for the Jones fight) are G fighters. Maybe this fight will ultimately end up on Showtime like Marquez did last year. ::
cool, I will be watching a championship fight between two of the most talented 'lower' weight boxers.
well I predict mayweather and delahoya will fight next may. it appears gbp does not consider september as lucrative ppv month as some once thought.
I wouldn't write off Casamayor like that, he's old but he's not a walk over. I'm a big Pacquiao fan and I''ll admit I'd be nervous if he was fighting Casa. I wouldn't be surprised if Casa beats both Marquez and Pacquiao at 135. Despite Pac's great performance last night, size could still be a factor when fighting the very best in the division. I have a feeling Joel is going to handle Marquez.
With Campbell-Guzman on the same night(which is a much better matchup anyway) theres no way in hell you'll catch me ordering this fight, which will most likely be a stinker anyway. Showtime is kicking HBO's ass in quality in the fall. On Oct 11 Showtime has a double header of Vitali-Peter, followed by Tarver-Dawson. HBO has Mosley-Mayorga on PPV the same night.:atu: Fuck HBO!
I don't know if campbell - guzman will turn out that much better, guzman won't give campbell a fraction of the opportunities that diaz or diamond did
Yeah, it's kinda nice to see Showtime having some good fights opposite HBO PPV's...of course, last year they had a pretty good looking fall schedule and it fell apart.
It may not be much better, but it will at least be $44.95 cheaper. I'm sticking my original prediction of the Casa-Marquez fight not seeing the opening bell, at least not on Sept. 13.
Yeah, this doesn't figure to be much of a pay per view so I could definitely see it going the way the Marquez-Barrios/Juarez ppv did last September. Golden Boy put on some of the worst ppv undercards around and JMM-Casa isn't selling itself on any large scale.
:bears: I think this will be a great fight. Marquez proved against Pac that he has plenty left in the tank. Marquez by clear decision.
I have a hard time picking a winner for this one. Intriguing fight as I never would have thought Marquez and Casa to fight previously
Yeah. That would be a great fight to have on HBO, but Manny isn't really an HBO fighter. He's an HBO PPV fighter.
well his last ppv with Diaz did pretty bad considering Pacquiao is supposed to be the next Delahoya as far as being a draw. as popular as he is he needs an elite oponent to warrant a ppv. People won't just order any bullshit because pacquiao is on it. Soto and Valero to me are no better than David Diaz. There is a reason the Pacquiao/JMM rematch did over 500,000 buys and the Diaz ppv did less than half that. people pay for the fight not the fighter.
