    From fightnews:

In his first interview since retiring, former world champion Floyd Mayweather has accused HBO announcers of racism. "...they talk about Kelly Pavlik, a white fighter, like he's the second coming Or they go crazy over Manny Pacquiao. But I'm a black fighter," Mayweather told David Mayo, boxing writer of his hometown newspaper, the Grand Rapids Press. "Is it racial? Absolutely!" alleged Floyd. "They praise white fighters, they praise Hispanic fighters, whatever. But black fighters, they never praise. I've noticed it for a long time but I couldn't say anything because I had to do business with them. I'll still do business with them, but I'm done holding my tongue. I think HBO is great. But their announcers are full of (expletive)."

and the newly retired athlete said he has some nouveau-riche purchases pending to enjoy that wealth: A new $26 million jet, a new $18.5 million Las Vegas home, another home worth $11 million in Miami, and a $20 million yacht.

    And so it begins...

That all sounds nice, but how could you enjoy it after being a victim of HBO's vile racism?

HBO never praises black fighters? HBO is racist because they praise Pavlik and Pacquaio?

Possible bias against defensive fighters perhaps, but didn't HBO appreciate Pernell Whitaker?

I don't agree with Mayweather interview cause Max, Lampley, and Manny do a great job of giving all fighters the credit that they deserve. However, Merchant on the other hand does not. Personally I feel that he does hype up non black fighters and is quicker to hate on black fighters then non black fighters.

As far as the slave wages is concerned. Why do people take that shit out of context. Ya'll know damn well when PBF made that comment he was speaking about the money HBO was paying Hamed compared to what he was getting paid. I'll Holla 5000

Pavlik and Pacquiao have slightly different fighting styles than Mayweather.

I think that's part of the reason why they're hyping them up...though I agree completely that they are over-hyping them. They're trying to create new stars in the sport and they're basically over-selling a lot of fighters right now.

I thought the "face of American boxing" comment went way overboard.

Regarding Merchant, he dislikes fighters who use their ability and athleticism to win while minimizing/avoiding punishment. That's why he didn't like Jones and Mayweather, and he made no attempt to mask it...but he was also one of the biggest Whitaker fans there was.

Merchant did say he loved Derrick Jefferson, so he didn't hate all black fighters.

I do find it a bit ironic that Merchant hates the exact style of fighter that Kellerman loves.

At that time Hamed was a huge attraction, while Floyd could only say that he beat Chicanito and the then-better-known-as-a-wife-beater Corrales. Floyd was in NO WAY a major attraction at that time...and still got a million dollar deal with HBO!:nono:

True so maybe I'm the sucker, but

this is the only time I've heard anything from Floyd Jr where my main reaction is that he can go fuck himself.

And I've defended him being very smart and asserting that he would never piss away his money and end up poor. Well, I'd still say it is likely that he has too much to ever be poor, but from that list of toys and luxuries, it looks like he is trying.

Sadly, PBF might go down as the most hated boxer in history.

Boxing isn't popular enough anymore for that ever to happen. Jack Johnson, Muhammad Ali, Mike Tyson, Jack Dempsey and Larry Holmes have him trumped by a mile.

Hell, even Roy Jones pissed more people off then Floyd ever will.

:crafty: Bitch-fighting deserves racism. Like Wlad's last CRACKER of a performance, ....what a TYPICAL scared WHITE BOY!!!..and well deserved I thought,.. for one night, bitter American journalists, (mostly white) were correct about the heavyweight division, "white aint right",.. Fraud is undoubtably responsible for helping lend the notion that black fighters like to run, in the exact same manner that white boys like to get EXPOOOOOOOOOSED,...so yes indeed he does deserve racism for murking up the vision of shiny black beasts like Shane Mosely, putting apparent 'unstoppable war machines' like Miguel Cotto, into a reverse gear,.. Now thanks to Fraud, Cotto maintains this reputation without tarnish,.. Shane was the one who ran?, surely it was Shane?, Shane sprinted from corner to corner, jammed his elbow in Cotto's throat and eye in the midst of panick and twisted his back like a fucken top.

    Racism it is! :cheer:

What a load of fucking bullshit. I've never thought HBO were remotely racist.

They hype black fighters as much as any other. Even Merchant, who quite likes Toney and other black fighters.

Mayweather is so stupid I don't think he realises that Pacman is an Asian from the Phillipines, and I also don't think he realises that Pavlik and Pacman are about 1,000 times more exciting and watchable than he is

Everything bad that happens to a black person is the result of racism. Every single time.

    So Floyd is right.

And how exactly is this? The complaint on Roy was that avoided top opposition, which is essentially the same thing Floyd did in recent years. As a person, Roy NEVER came off being as much of prick as Floyd. Also, unlike Floyd, I dont recall Roy ever proclaiming himself to the G.O.A.T as Floyd does. Roy used to proclaim himself as the P4P best(which he was for a long period of time), but he never said he was greater than Robinson the way Floyd does. Maybe the Roy fans did at one point, but never Roy himself. Floyd on the other hand honestly think he's greatest fighter in history, and has no problems telling the world that he thinks he is.

I find Roy 100 times more likeable than Floyd, and funny too.

That post fight interview, I can't remember which one it was, but it was absolutely classic

huh? that is exactly how floyd and roy differ - floyd has NOT avoided top competition. i also don't remember floyd fighting any garbagemen or police officers then putting his hands behind his back like he is something special.

Right, but Roy beating Toney with ease, Hopkins comfortably, and Ruiz comfortably - a legit heavyweight - eclipses Floyd's whole career.

I see Floyd has retired before facing Cotto too.

Their resumes are not comparable, Roy has by far the better wins.

The 3 wins I mentioned pretty much shit all over Floyd's (very) impressive win over Chico, his debatable decision over Castillo, close, boring win over Oscar, and finally Hatton.

But neither does Floyd avoiding or not avoiding top competition in your previous post

I thought this was more about who is more annoying and dislikeable? Not who fought better competition?

Incidentally, do you think Floyd's wins over Castillo, Oscar and Hatton are better than Roy's wins over Toney, Nard and Ruiz?

I have some sympathy for Floyd here and yes, his comments are a bit extreme as well. Here is something i noticed:

merchant never praised Floyd. Thing is that one could see that Floyd wanted Merchant's praise. That is instrumental in this case. Floyd respected Merchant. So Floyd, the same Floyd with a dad who could not praise him, is constantly rejected by another possible father figure in his life. I don't blame Floyd for being bitter this way. He calls it rascism when it is, as others have mentioned a matter of style. But would it have killed Merchant to praise Floyd once in his victories?

People conveniently forget that Floyd is very young. Also credit where credit is due... Floyd is smart enough to see Lampley as more of a hypercrite and a bad announcer (both true)... Foyd does not care about the new and improved (said sarcastically) Emmanuel Stewart because though Floyd would never say it, Emmanuel is a shill now and Floyd knows it. NO!! Floyd cares about Larry Merchant because Larry is the iconoclast, the drunken wise old man who actually knows what he is talking about and challenges the HBO orthodoxy.

Fuck man!! Merchant give Floyd a hug already would ya?

I likewise found that part very interesting. Rick Reilly of ESPN wrote an article about athletes going broke (http://sports.espn.go.com/espnmag/story?id=3469271&lpos=spotlight&lid=tab1pos1) and so far Floyd seems to be following the pattern to brokesville quite nicely. Let me just say that being in the Air Force and having worked on fighter jets I know how costly it can be just for their upkeep. I wouldn't touch owning one unless I was at the least a billionaire and I don't understand the need to own one unless you are a pilot. Why waste the money when you can just rent one whenever you need it for millions less?

Floyd claims he's made some great investments that will make him a billionaire and if that's true then he should have nothing to worry about and should be able to enjoy his retirement. If it's more of his patented smoke up the rectum then I say to all his fans rejoice, for you will see him in the ring again.
