I thought Forrest took it in terms of shots landed in the second, fourth, and fifth. I'll have to watch it again.

he didn't win 3 or 4. He won 2 and 5. I can see scoring round 2 10-8 and the fight being a draw.

 

Round 1 nobody would score for griffin. He got dropped pretty good.

 

Like I said, I would have to watch it again, but it seemed that a lot of Rampage shots were hitting arms or shoulders but not the head. The crowd might have influenced peoples perceptions because they ooed and aahed at everything Rampage did.

Round 1
The fighters trade punches at the sound of the bell with nothing connecting solid. Griffin gets the action started with a right hand lead that lands. Griffin is working the lead leg of Jackson early with low kicks. A left hook from the champion finds its target. Griffin jabs with his left and goes back to Jackson's leg with a kick. A punching flurry punctuated by powerful left staggers Griffin. The challenger comes forward however, glancing a right straight and a low kick. A right uppercut counter collapsesGriffin to the canvas. Rampage enters Griffin's guard and moves him to the cage. Right hands land for Jackson as Forrest stood. Excellent opening frame.

Round 2
Griffin lands a low kick that hurts Jackson. His knee buckles as he retreats to the fencing. Griffin locks on a guillotine and trips Jackson to the canvas. He gives up the hold but takes top position. The challenger moves to side-control and works for an Americana. He gives up the submission to take the mount. Elbows and left hands land for Griffin. Forrest continues to elbow the head but he is doing little damage. All Griffin in the second frame.

Round 3
Griffin continues his assault on Jackson's left leg. Jackson is avoiding the majority of the incoming low kicks, but a few are getting through. Jackson, limping badly, is looking for a knockout punch. He hurts Griffin with a right hand but is now too slow to follow through. Griffin plays it smart by sticking and moving. Jackson tries to rally late in the round with a combination started with a right hook to the body. Griffin takes a bit of punishment but moves away.

Round 4
Jackson gets a takedown but is caught in a triangle. Griffin has the hold secured but he can't control Jackson's trapped arm. Jackson escapes but finds himself fighting an omaplata. The champion stands and lands a hard right hand on the now bleeding challenger. Forrest, dripping crimson fluid below his right eye, gets hit with a strong left right as the round closed.

Round 5
The fifth and final round starts with both fighters looking for a big punch. Griffin gets the best of early action with a right straight. Griffin goes back to the leg with a kick after tasting a right hook. Jackson turns it up a bit with a strong flurry. In the bout's final minute, Griffin went to the leg while Jackson loaded up with shots. Jackson was unable to connect as the close fight came to a close.

Like Valdosta said,Griffen deserved a draw at best.

 

I still can't believe Forrest won.

I really thought rampage was just going to crush him, I thought he was in another league.

Even as I was watching, and forrest was doing very well, I kept thinking anytime now Rampage is just going to land a vicious hook or uppercut and forrest is going to be out.

Who would you pick in a rematch?

Credit to forrest, he really he is an overachiever, but I do think from start to finish rampage looked a little lethargic and disinterested, I think he took forrest lightly.

It's too bad MMA has using the same scoring system as boxing, because it doesn't really tell the story of a five round fight.

Forrest was controlling the action for at LEAST 20 of the 25 minutes they were in the octagon together.

He clearly won every second of round one, until he got caught with the uppercut. Fair, after that you have to give it to Rampage.

He dominated round 2.

From a boxing stand-point, and they use boxing scoring, I thought Forrest won round 3. He did all the work and Rampage basically just stood there except for a couple of flurries.

Rampage won round 4.

Both 3 and 4 were close.

Round 5 wasn't close at all, Rampage just stood there for five minutes.

 

Opinions aside.I think forrest will lose it in his next defense.

 

I would also like to point out that this is further proof that all of these guys are pretty crappy.

I had Rampage winning close but clearly .

I had him winning rounds 1,3,4.

The UFC wanted Forrest to win though, a unanimous decision? I don't think so.

 

It's just a kinda-sport, with mid-level athletes. There are two or three guys out there who are awesome. Most of these guys are ordinary as hell.

 

Many of these "mid-level" athletes are past olympic and collegiate champions. Please explain your reasoning.

 

Well I think at the very core, kids who wrestle were shit at other sports. That's why they wrestle.

 

That is ridiculous. There are different reasons why kids choose certain sports. Many kids enjoy the sport of wrestling because it is offered at a young age at most schools, is combative in nature, and it is an individual sport. I find that wrestling attracts the rough and tumble types than thrive off of the 1 on 1 combat scenario.

Kids who wrestle are shit at other sports....nah.

I agree completely. I thought Rampage won the fight pretty clearly... it was not a dominant performance by any means, and he has himself to blame for being outhustled at times, allowing it to be closer than it should have been .... but he still won the fight

Steve - I didn't make an effort to score the fight, but overall Forest looked like the winner to me.

He simply did more. And although he was certainly hurt more than Rampage, predictably by punches, don't forget he fucked Rampage's knee up, and beat the shit out of him in the 2nd round.

Of course, what COULD have played a part is that I was expecting Forest to get destroyed, and you often give people more credit than you should when they do much better than expected.

 

Im more of a rampage fan than forrest, but i think forrest won that one. i think his work rate won him the fight i mean he was bringin it on rampage , but not to the point where he becomes reckless and get in a brawling match w/ rampage.Imo. he was winning even the 1st rd. up untill the time when he got clipped by the uppercut. but i also think that rampage landed the harder shot bec. griffin got stunned almost everytime that rampage gets a good shot off him.

Concur. You make a great point about Round 1. Griffin was absolutely winning that round except for the one uppercut by Rampage.

But that was the fight in a nutshell. Griffin doing more, landing more, but Rampage landing the more brutal shots.

Total: 48-47 Griffin

I wouldn't argue too much about a Rampage 10-9 first round and an eventual draw. Overall it was a good scrap.

The most telling point is that it seemed Rampage felt he lost, so that's good enough for me.
