damn, i remember watching toney-mccallum III on espn years ago thinking that i'm watching toney in the final stages of his career.

he's pretty much done at this point, but it's amazing how long this guy has been around.

Yep, that's exactly what happened. Rahman was hoping to get a NC by saying he couldn't see out of his eye. The cut itself was not even close to being bad enough to warrant a stoppage. Rahman was getting handled right before the round ended and he found a way to not get KO'd. He deserves the loss and Toney deserves the Win.

 

Yeah but his style is so economical, he doesn't need to build muscles and train his ass off. He just counters all day. Hardly looks like he's trying. The Ruiz fight was terrific, he was just toying with the bum all night.::

 

Was it true that Rahman started getting hit more after the cut? He claimed Toney started landing after the cut because his vision was blurred and blood was getting in his eye.

 

Done? He's just getting started. The best is yet to come. "Bring on that bum Wlad and his sister Vitali".::

 

rahman SUCKS. hopefully, this was the last time that one-hit wonder take up any tv time.

 

Well, yeah that is true, but I don't think it was just the cut. Toney was starting to get to him anyway. I don't think the cut would have made any difference except he would have had to take his KO loss like a man instead of quitting.

 

A fight I would love to see is Toney vs Haye. This fight should happen. It would be a good next fight for both guys.

 

Really makes you lose any sympathy you might have had for Rahman considering they fucked him over on the final decision of the fight's result.

not quite as dramatic a contrast, but when Vargas beat Yori Boy in 7 rounds for his first title at 154, Yori Boy quit because he "was taking too much punishment" but at the very same time on Telemundo for the 122 pound title - Enrique Sanchez went thru hell with both eyes closing his entire face swollen cuts all over the place basically 4 times worse than the damage Yori Boy sustained yet he gutted it out all 12 rounds gave a championship effort dropping a close decision in a great fight.

 

Rahman in no way got fucked over. He quit. He was about to get KO'd in the next round or two and thought if he said he couldn't see they would rule it a NC.

 

Not sure if he was being too much of a quitter though. It just so happened that Toney was lacing up Rahman right after the cut opened, and the bleeding was going straight into his eye.

Rahman gave a great post-fight speech. He wasn't a whiny girl about it.

 

I agree with the mastery of James Toney.. I just feel like he'd be that much better without excess fat around the middle

 

Rahman punked out there is no doubt, and i have no sympathy for him. but him getting ko'd in the next round or so is complete speculation, and the result of the fight is not correct in accordance with the rules of boxing. the result is incorrect, therefore he was fucked over, imo

 

Had Rahman just let the doctor look at his eye, the fight would have continued. It was Rahman who decided he didn't want to fight. The cut was minor compared to many others where the fight still went on.

 

But the contention that he couldn't see was based on the injury he sustained caused by a head butt.

 

Toney should get another fight while he's still in shape.

I really don't get your gripe about the shoulder roll :dunno:

 

It's not the shoulder roll that is illegal, it's when a certain fighter contorts himself in such a way that the only place he can be hit is in the back.
