I agree, this can turn out to be a war, but Cotto has hinted on boxing Margarito which is very smart. If Cotto gets lured into a brawl it will be a war for sure!!! I expect Cotto to power box!

Cotto is so versatile, it's hard to pick against him. And Margarito's ribs have a huge target on them. Plus, the difference in hand speed is gonna be telling.

However, one thing gnaws at me and that's Miguel's incredibly average defense. He gets tagged by everyone - I don't think he can afford to take many Margarito bombs because he's gonna be throwing each one with conviction.

If there's ever been a fight where Margarito could be stopped, it's this one. He's gonna go out on his shield, methinks and that's gonna lead to some great action. It's also that same mentality that could see Cotto on his back.

it will be a war.. I think! Great fight with Marg taking a severe beating and ultimatly colasping.. he'll probably think of retiring after this fight.. he'll prolly talk about how he does not want to end up slurring and drooling.. he'll talk about how he wants a future outside of boxing and he realized that he cant do any more in the sport

Cotto's defense is much, much better than Marge's.

He didn't look that hittable to me against both Judah AND Mosley, 2 very fast handed fighters, much faster than Marge.

Cotto used to look more hittable, I think his defense has improved.

I think Margarito should spend his time this week wisely..

maybe fly to Mexico and try to get tips from some local tacorias.. maybe how to make tacos and how to wrapp buritos.. that way after he gets battered. .he can go back there and he'll know people already! he can start working right away

Cotto by UD. He brings more to the party. He has some movement, he has improved his ability to fight at a distance, and he can pass a brief test every two or three rounds or so when Margarito corners him. Margarito has determination...and that's it. But it's an incredible amount of determination. Okay, I'm downplaying a bit (obviously he has great infighting ability and a good chin) but I think this fight is not going to be in the trenches enough for him to win.

I'm amazed at the predictions right now. Margarito is an underdog, but not as much as the picks would lead you to think. If the odds look like the fightbeat prediction thread, I'll lay some money on Margarito even though I'll be 100% behind Cotto.

I dont' know what happens to all the guys saying Margarito would pound on Cotto and/or Mayweather..if they just man up and fought him..now that a ELITE fighter gives Margarito the shot..they pick the other guy.......I know it mosta been more than the 3 guys picking Margarito at the moment.....even Kaukip the biggest Margarito supporter is now talking about "If Margarito makes Cotto box and move would be a victory in itself...regardless of the decision..":partie:

When did I say Margarito had a better defense?

And, unlike Judah and Mosley, Margarito will be throwing punches every single second.

To list defense as a minus point for Cotto, I assumed you felt Marge's was better.

By the way, I think you'll be surprised at how Marge's workrate drops DRAMATICALLY after getting stung by some hard, accurate counters by Cotto.

 at "throwing punches every single second".

It won't be anything of the kind, just wait and see.

If it was williams fighting, I would tend to agree.

Williams and Clottey proved that marge ISN'T prepared to walk through fire in the same way that someone like Morales is.

His workrate is going to be reduced to that of an average one after some sharp counters.

Mararito is like Tua in that regard - great chin - but just doesn't quite have the guts it takes to walk through fire and keep up a high workrate in the face of a vicious assault.

And for old time's sake, let me just add - I don't think Marge is a gutless pussy, purely that he DOESN'T quite the guts that some of you seem to think, he is not the sort of hardcore mexican warrior that Morales or Vargas was.

That's interesting. I'd advise you to go back and see how many punches Margarito threw against both fighters. Maybe that'll change your mind - although I don't know how Clottey proved Margarito wasn't ready to walk through "fire." I seem to remember the last half of the fight consisting mostly of Clottey whimpering in a corner as Margarito unloaded.

And yes, I agree that counters will slow him down. Margarito's the type to throw while you're throwing - I don't think he can take too many from Miguel but I don't know what Miguel can take from him either.

Aww man, I just read that last line about "guts." This corny sh*t again? For a moment I thought we could talk boxing.

Agreed. Although some would argue he doesn't quite have the guts/determination.

It's a fair point though, and we are talking boxing.

I'm just mentioning it because I think it'll be a factor in this fight.

Let's face it, the one chance margarito has is by outgutting and outlasting cotto right? And just with sheer determination.

Personally I don't think Marge is capable of it against a fighter like Cotto.

He looks determinated against average fighters like Cintron, but against a fighter like Cotto essentially I think Marge is going to be tamed.

The only slight concern for cotto fans is the fact that marge is the biggest fighter he has faced. Despite his size though, I think Mosley is not only stronger, but just a superior all round fighter.

But hey, size is but one factor. Tarver was the biggest guy Nard faced, Diaz was the biggest guy pacman faced etc, and we saw what happened there.

Can't wait for this match. I expect an excellent high-level brawl and Cotto wins a clear-cut hard-fought (insert another hyphenated adjective here) decision.

hoping for a late round ko tho, those are my favourite types of battles

It's a ridiculous point that makes you sound like a nincompoop. "Margarito has no guts." Or are you gonna amend that to "average" guts? Whatever, let's not go there!

Either way, it's a great fight and I'm psyched for it. And I won't be surprised to see either fighter win.

everyone is expecting Cotto to win, so it wont be anything special when he does

in fact, if he doesn't win in very impressive fashion it will prove he is a fraud all along
