Clearly you have to make Trinidad a favorite, but it seems this thread is making it too simplistic.

    Trinidad punches hard
    Margarito gets hit
    Therefore Trinidad torches him

    What about these fights?

    Benn-McLellan
    Cobb-Shavers
    Morales-Pacquiao 1
    Mayorga-Forrest

Just a few examples of guys who got hit a lot and were against big punchers. All of them won.

Different styles involved and so on. but it just points out a fallacy that hitting hard against a guy who's defense isn't superb doesn't translate into a win, let alone complete destruction.

Again i'm not picking Margarito, but i don't see him getting massacred in a one sided affair either.

Trinidad by decision or late knockout. Not that they fight anything alike, but I could see this going along the lines of Trinidad-Vargas, where what Tito does early and late is ultimately the difference in the fight.

So you don't think Tito needs the low blows from the mid-rounds to overcome Margarito?:stir:

the low blows are implied and already factored into the equation

I dont think theres too many welters in history who are as hittable as Margarito, who I'd pick over a prime Tito. Margarito damn sure aint one of them! Tito TKO 8, in a slightly more competitve version of Tito-Mayorga. But Tony would share the same fate as Mayorga.

Just for the record... I'd pick a prime Vargas over Margarito also.

Margarito's style plays right into Tito's hands. I'm not sure he fought anyone that hit as hard and accurately as Tito did at 147. I have a hard time seeing a competitive fight here, exciting yes (like Tito-Mayorga), but competitive, I doubt it. Tito TKO mid.

  16. Hex-One

    Hex-One "Twinkle Toes" McJack

I agree, Margarito is just to open to get hit plus he's slow, that spells disaster against Felix. I can't see him eating lefts and rights for 12 rounds againt Tito.

You doubt it? There is noway in fucking hell Margarito sees the 12th rd against a prime 147 Tito. There is also noway in hell Margarito makes the fight even remotely competitive.

  18. joony

    joony "Twinkle Toes" McJack

yea because tito looked so awesome at 147 beating campas, carr, and who else? an ancient blocker? a shot whitaker?

margarito would've been the best guy he's fought at 147. margarito would've beaten all of those guys that tito fought at 147 with an exception of maybe de la hoya.

  19. Hex-One

    Hex-One "Twinkle Toes" McJack

Joony history showed us that you cant go toe to toe with Trinidad and win. Margarito is too slow and open to take Tito's canons for 12 rounds. It will be Tito/Campus all over again with the fight going a few more rounds...MAYBE. But the end result will be the same, brutal KO.

    Baron "Twinkle Toes" McJack

Yeah he looked awesome and he was awesome. Something you'll never recognize anyway. Margarito is a good fighter but he doesn't possess the skills that troubled Tito throughout his career, he never had trouble with brawlers, his shots were too powerfull, accurate and short for that. He was way faster than Margarito at that weight, had a better defense, better power, almost better everything except a chin. Hell, he was as big as Margarito is, one of his main strenght at that weight. Everything points toward a Tito victory.

Trinidad via late rounds stoppage. Too powerful, and is good at landing short accurate combos. Margarito would have moments but nothing more.

Last night hasnt changed my opinion on this matchup. Tito would've stopped Tony late. What last night should have shown is what Ive always said.... Cotto is NO Tito!

BUMP!!! Would Margarito have smiled with Tito's power shots?

  26. Ugotabe Kidding

Probably not, but Tito wouldn't have caught him as easily as Mosley did either. Tito doesn't have the speed nor the straight punches although he hit a bit harder

CORRECTION: everything points to a Tito highlight reel KO. With the way Trinidad threw short, tight lefthooks after his right hand there's NO WAY Tony takes those.

I'll say the same thing Ive always said of this matchup. Margarita gets Campas'd.
