That is what's going to happen IF Maragarito lets Cotto get into a rhythm in the first few rounds. I think Tony has learned from the Williams and Clottey fights that he can't start off that slowly with guys at this level. He has to pour on the offensive attack and not let Cotto get into a rhythm. And yes the key punch WILL be Margarito's uppercuts on the inside. The punch that made Cintron not want to trade any more. I know Cotto is far better than Cintron but Tony can use this to disrupt Cotto's attack.

    Viva Margarito!!!

Maybe a bit of a bad angle. Margarito obviously has a considerable height advantage but it looked extra large in that weigh-in picture. It didn't look quite as bad here.

All this Pic Tells REED is that there's MORE of Margarita to HIT...

& we ALREADY Know Margarita has ATROCIOUS Defense...Bottom Line, NOBODY is Gonna Beat Miguel Cotto when they're as Pathetically EASY to Hit as Margarita is...

    Cotto TKO 9...

During the buildup to this fight, I was thinking Cotto would give Margarito a beatdown. Mainly, I could not get the lethargic Margarito out of my head-- the one that looked like shit at times against Santos and Clottey.

But the more I think about it, the more I like Margarito in this fight. I think there is a chance that this fight will be a short, furious fight like Hagler-Hearns (or Torres-Cotto for that matter). In that type of fight, I favor Tony because of his workrate and his ability to throw punches in between Cotto's.

I think the fight boils down to whether or not Cotto can get some early body work done. If he can't, I don't think he will be able to keep Tony off of him. Cotto has not faced someone with Margarito's stamina and constant pressure. Neither Judah nor Mosley asks as much of their opponents past the middle rounds as Margarito does.

I think Cotto has loads of trouble in there, and ultimately this one gets stopped by the Cotto corner in the 9th or 10th.

I realize Cotto has loads of advantages and is probably the better fighter, but this one feels like an upset. The taller, busier Margarito by TKO 10.

As unexceptional as he is, I think Margarito is very live here. He could trouble Cotto stylistically. Sure, his defense isn't great, but he has size, reach, volume, stamina and a good chin to take heat from Cotto and give off some of his own. Plus, I'm probably in the minority here, but even now, I still think Cotto's durability is somewhat suspect. Toney isn't a power puncher, but he isn't feather-fisted either.

Also, my thing with Cotto is this: He's short. If he was 5'10-5'11 (Oscar/Tito height), this'd be a no-brainer. But he's just 5'7-5'8. And at that size, he's not exactly a super-talent like Shane or Floyd. Cotto is more like a meat and potatoes guy. His skill-set is better than Tony's, but factor in size et al, the disparity to me isn't wide enough for him to destroy Margarito as most seem to expect him to do.

I could be wrong though. But seeing as how I'm invested in neither guy, I don't mind being proven otherwise.

Margarito via decision or late round TKO.

Good points. I also like that Margarito will make Cotto fight when he doesn't want to. No one ever dictates the pace with Cotto because he puts so much pressure on that guys usually like the rest when Cotto backs out to reload. But Margarito will step forward, and that will take its toll as the fight wears on, IMO.

Steve Dave better be on standby for a mercy killing, the power of the spree troll, will cause harm, even to myself....it's for my own good that I be banned in the event that Margarito wins.

I don't know dude, I have a hard time seeing Margarito's slow wide shots land before Cotto's faster and more compact blows.

Yup. And that's what hurt him against Santos. Santos got there first...a lot. On the other hand, Miguel Cotto - as hard as he hits - is not a natural junior middle who weighed 170 on fight night. And Margarito DID manage to get quite a few in on Santos as well.

And for those who forgot, Cotto's defense isn't quite Whitaker-like either. He can be hit and he can be hurt. So while I'm not sure if Margarito's slow wide shots land before Cotto's I do know some WILL land. Why? Because Margarito is the type of guy you need to KTFO if you want him to stop coming. Santos hit him with flush BOMBS in their rematch and, no matter how hurt he was, Margarito kept coming forward and beating him down, showing amazing recuperative powers. So unless you can lay him out, he will get to you.

Cotto may not be able to do that but he can break Margarito down; boxing, firing combinations and working the body. And being able to take Margarito's punches and pressure. In other words, Cotto must put on a pound for pound performance. I don't know if he's disciplined enough to do that for how many rounds he needs to against a tough, unrelenting foe in Margarito. But if he is able to, he deserves to be considered the world's best fighter and a man Floyd Mayweather must fight--or forever damage his legacy.

Agreed with that post. It is a very hard fight for Cotto, I'm surprised at the confidence some people show.
