I'm so disappointed.... Props to Margarito, I knew this was a close fight but I expected Cotto to win. Margarito took everything Cotto had, everything. Cotto fought off the back foot the whole fight, so of course that's gonna take some steam out of your punches, but Margarito made him fight this way. No excuses. Margarito is the better fighter. Great fight BTW.

I had no favorite going into the fight. I picked Cotto by a close decision.

The first 4-5 rounds went sort of like i expected. Margarito coming forward but for the most part getting the lesser end of the exchanges.

I thought Antonio would make a little bit of a late round surge but it wouldn't be enough.

Margarito was a complete beast. More beastly than the beastliest beast could ever have predicted such beastliness.

Can one of you guys tell me why Cotto NEVER went to the body??? That should be the best against a body puncher like Marg give him his own medicine. But Cotto didn'T and he usually does it a lot... :dunno:

Awesome fight, by round 6 everybody in the room saw the writing on the wall, the only question was Cotto going to go the full 12 because Margarito was relentless. No shame in that loss.

    well done to margarito :bears:

i really though cotto would win a decision fighting off the back foot

unfortunately cotto has proven to be a front runner....great when he can control the pace, but had serious problems against margarito's work rate
it's actually a bit dissapointing that margarito's pace got to him so early in the fight

he's still young though so hope he bounces back:hammert:...i still think he'd be a very tough fight for Mayweather

What makes this even more humiliating for Cotto...

...is that Margarito is still unexceptional, average and fundamentally basic.

    This fight changes nothing.

Cotto has an excellent skill-set. But he's short, has questionable stamina, suspect durability, isn't giftedly quick or agile, isn't exceptionally strong, and, is highly vulnerable to pressure. Like I said, he's a meat-and-potatoes guy.

He got crushed and brutalized by a highly determined guy who had the ability (as basic as he is) to get past the "skill" smokescreen and expose his weaknesses.

    I've always respected Cotto's class. He's a great fighter.

But he's not as exceptional as most of us have been led to believe.

:bangh: Cotto did what i though he would do win most of the early round..but i though he would do it by going to the body...slowing Margarito down a bit...and box him late..maybe get the stoppage or decision...but he just didn't go to the body at all early...then around round 7-8 Margarito started going to his body....and that was that...:shit:

Margarito's body was protected the whole time. That's why Cotto aimed for the head.

    Great question.

In my prediction i gave body punching as the difference.

Once i saw Margarito landing hooks to the liver i felt it was bad news for Cotto.

The only answer i have is that perhaps Cotto wanted to stick and move. If he concentrated on the body it could have kept him in too close.

I gave Cotto the ever so slight edge in this bout but I'm so happy for Margarito!! I'm ecstatic! After years of disrespect, he wins the big one! Here's to hoping ALL posters who completely DISRESPECTED him give him the props he deserves.

    DO YOU BELIEVE NOW!

I try not to say things after big fights, cause I know when a beloved fighter loses it's horrible (Me being a Vlad fan knows that all too well:doh:)

But you gotta admit,as soon as both Teddy Atlas "Kellerman" and LOK picked Cotto to win,you knew it was all downhill for Cotto:lol:

LOK is named appropriately. As soon as the Stupid Stroke Victim makes a pick, it's a LOCK for the other guy. I'm proud to say, I' ALWAYS in the other bracket. :kick:

This is what I had to say in the prediction thread:

This is fight will be potiential fight of the year. Yeah I know that everyone is thinking that Cotto is going to destroy Margarito but Margarito is a tough SOB. I can see this being a very tough scrap with both fighters having their moments. Hell I can picture a Castillo/Corrales type of war with Cotto pulling out a close decision but the fans demanding an immediate rematch due to the fight being an instant classic. I'll Holla 5000

So yes I will eat my crow. I'll Holla 5000
