Something was obviously not right about Cotto , for a start, he didn't knock him out, when he always knocks him out, also, he fell down and the referee stopped the fight, if he would only just stop quarrelling with his family through training camp, he might have realised that he never did that against Judah or Gomez and it certainly wasn't gunna work against Margarito. If I were Cotto, I would take an immediate rematch, and this time skill him with superior talentness.

Indeed. The lowblows early took the legs from Cotto. As well as Marge having the Mullet for a hairdo, that was distracting. He would have schooled Margarito if it wasnt for those factors. A re is in order. :bears: BTW Cotto never took a knee, first one was a slip, second one he had to tie his shoe, the laces were undone.

Cotto never learned Trinidad's old trick. When an opponent has you in trouble, go straight to the BALLS!!! :fightme:

Cotto knows and has used that trick.

Also, did any of you think about the fact that maybe Cotto didn't go to the body because he was getting manhandled on the inside? Every time Margarito got close he'd rip cotto wth body shots and uppercuts. I think that had a lot to do with why Cotto was headhunting more than usual. He was just not the better inside fighter. Margarito was just plain stronger in close.

adding that if somehow Cotto survived the 11th then it would have added a 10-7 round in Tony's favor which would have made it impossible for Cotto to catch up without knocking Tony down several times

    Exactly.

That said, I had Cotto ahead going into the 11th. Have a hard time seeing it any 'worse' for him than 5-4-1 Cotto, honestly.

    Peace.

True to an extent....but the problem was that Cotto was going to the ropes of his own volition. I expected him to fight off the back foot, but not voluntarily back to the ropes - especially not knowing that Cotto knows how to turn an opponent.

When you're on the ropes, the attacking opponent has the strength and leverage advantage. It can be useful, but not THAT much against an opponent like Margarito who is taller and stronger.

And Cotto STARTED the fight going to the head with fast combinations. He threw two heavy shots to the belt in the 1st round where he really planted and let go...and that's all I remember.

He could have set up body shots better by staying at center ring and upping the use of his jab - he has a great one that almost always made Margarito stop & reset, even when Cotto was backpedaling. Doubling or tripling up on it would have made a difference here.

But no doubt Margarito simply bent Cotto to his will, and his size, phyiscal strength, violence inside and workrate/stamina where big issues.

    Peace.
