Who ya think wins & why. Cotto turned out to be a better boxer than I thought he was but I think Tszyu was better and much more natural at it then him. He also was pretty crafty and clever in the ring and I think he wins a decision.
Its hard to say who wins because Tszyu's prime and entire career was at 140, whilst Miguel didnt hit his peak until he moved up to 147. At 140, I'd take a prime Tszyu to stop Cotto late. At 147, Cotto woulda kicked his ass. So its hard to say. As to who was overall better, Tszyu was more talented. Cotto though IMO is slightly mentally tougher. Tszyu was a front runner. I dont care if his groupies disagree. Cotto to a certain extent maybe a bit of a front runner also, but I think Miguel has more heart than Tszyu had.
Interesting post. Tszyu being a front runner with more talent, but Cotto having more heart? I think heart, talent and "front running" are all up for debate both ways. I would agree that Kostya beats Miguel at 140 and Cotto wins @ 147 though.
Tszyu rapes Cotto at 140, the right hand fucks him up....KO 5 at 147? :dunno: Tszyu never fought there so who cares...about as relevant to discuss as how a fight at 154 would go
I never really liked Zoo.. but looking back.. he was a hell of a fighter.. at 140 I think you gotta go with Zoo.. 147..? not sure..
we'll see how a thirty six year old cotto handles a young tenacious opponent before making that assumption. overall, tszyu has had a much better amateur career and cotto hasn't quite matched his resume yet. but i agree w/ you. at 140, tszyu stops him late or wins on points. at 147, cotto's too big. i'm not even sure if cotto would've beaten hatton at 140 a few years back.
Word. The only thing that surprises me about this MM is that we haven't had a 'Tszyu by quit' type of post. Rest assured though, it can't be far away... :: Where is the evidence in support of Cotto having more heart? I'm not saying either has no heart you understand, in fact, any man who gets in a boxing ring and fights another man has tremendous heart IMHO, but I'm sure I just saw Cotto lose a fight after taking considerable punishment, taking two knees to prevent further punishment on his exhausted body before the towel coming in. Now again, don't get me wrong, he didn't 'quit'- he just couldn't physically take any more and to continue would have been to risk serious injury or death. How is that different to Tyszu not coming out for the 12th against Hatton? Anyway, at 140, Kostya would have beaten the shit out of Miguel. Cotto was nowhere near his peak or prime at that point and Kostya would have taken full advantage of Cotto's stamina issues to ping him around the ring at will in the later stages. Gimme Kostya by KO in, say 9. At 147, there is absolutely no way of knowing how it would go, as Kostya never fought there (I think). Cotto, despite his recent loss, is still a very, very good and skilled operator at 147, and I'd pick him to win there so long as he stays out of range of Kostya's right hand. Agreed on the Hatton point also, though I got shouted down as if I'd committed heresay when I suggested as such a wekk or so ago. MTF
tszyu would've beaten a lot of good fighters at 140. vernon forrest was owned twice in amateurs and he wanted none of tszyu when they were both coming up in the ranks. terron millett (when he was the champ) didnt want none, neither did guys like johnston and mosley when they were both campaigning at 135.
Yeah, but Forrest would have likely have farred much much better in the pros. The Tszyu of that time was a much different fighter and much more hittable. Hell, that amateur version of Tszyu was looking like Willey Pep in that fight.
Who gives about the amateurs! Mark Breland was one of the best amateurs in history, doesnt mean a damn thing! I dont remember Tszyu EVER saying he wanted a piece of Mosley. And Shane didnt duck him. He by-passed 140 to move up to 147 for more lucrative fights. Prime Mosley would have done a number on Tszyu.
Pretty much. I think Zoo's chin was slightly better. I think Cotto could win though. I would pick Zoo by Ko, but it could happen either way really.
well the best way to attack Tszyu is to bring the fight to his front door. Cotto is capable of that, but Cotto is also very susctable to right hands up the guard, which is Kostya's best punch. With the newfound Cotto who boxes first, Tszyu is a bad style. I would expect Tszyu to win 7/8 out of ten and be a clear favorite
The same way Ben Tackie was going to right X? That brutal right hand that he would hit him all day with ::
