BJ is the smaller guy, but imo he is more skilled and more well rounded. He will be in much better shape than the first time they fought...and imho will be a much better fighter than the first time. GSP will be the same guy that barely beat Penn the first time. BJ wins by late round submission.
GSP is an even better fighter than he was against Penn the first time. Back then, he was not a champion nor as confident as he is now. GSP will be hard to beat. Penn better get his ass in real good shape. Wins over Stevenson and Sherk aren't that big a deal IMO.
st. pierre won the first fight on takedowns. imo, his double leg takedowns have improved since and i can't see how benn is going to be able to stop them. i'd go w/ st. pierre via decision.
He's improved in most every part of his game. To see how much he's improved, check out his complete demolition of Hughes in fight #3. Insane.
If Penn is in extraordinary shape then I think the fight is close and entertaining. If not, GSP takes him down repeatedly until Penn is exhausted. At that point Penn takes a beating. **My MMA predicitions have been shit lately so this obviously means a fat, lethargic Penn knocks GSP out with a single shot.
For anyone to beat GSP, they have to do what Serra did in the first fight, and take the fight to him, keeping him on his feet and backing up from the pressure. You're not gonna outwrestle GSP, and you're not gonna catch him in a submission. TFK
And BJ has improved a ton as well. Since their fight,...GSP has been stopped and Penn has been as dominant as ever, even if at a lower weight. BJ rode his talent alone his whole career up until he recently realized that his cardio was his downfall. George is a freak of an athlete but BJ Penn is a freak of a MMA fighter.
Matt Hughes caught him in a submission. And BJ Penn is LIGHTYEARS better at submissions than Matt is.
St Pierre win a wide 5 round decision on the strength of his wrestling, cardio, size and strength advantage over Penn.
Matt Hughes powered out of a kimura attempt by George and powered into an armbar. Matt is LIGHT YEARS stronger than BJ is. :: In the two subsequent rematches with Hughes, George overpowered him. George has gotten much stronger and much more cardiovascularly fit. Penn cannot say the same.
I agree, and Penn certainly has the tools to do that. That being said, its going to be an interesting fight and I cant wait. The interesting thing will be GSP wrestling and Penns takedown defense. Both have arguably the best in MMA. They say GSP converts over 80 percent of his takedowns and Penn has some some of the best takedown defense around.
GSP has come a long way since that 1st Hughes fight. Hughes is a great wrestler. Koscheck is a great wrestler. Neither of them could do shit against GSP. The way to beat GSP is to stand and trade and put constant pressure on him. TFK
In there first fight the best St Pierre could do against a gassed penn was dry hump him on the ground...If Penn comes right I like his chances.
I hope so, but I don't think so. GSP is a good fighter himself. Penn is a freak, but GSP is bigger and at worst slightly less talented.
:::: No, I like GSP even though he is from the land of San Francisco north. Penn is my favorite UFC fighter. GSP is in my top 5. Actually, my favorite MMA fighter was Crop-cop but he is no more.
Ha, didn't realize it would do that when I posted it. Oh well, when it was Fitch, it was a brutal pic. TFK
When I first saw the picture I said "Damn, GSP beat Fitch so badly that he now looks just like Lesnar"
