For the sport of boxing or DLH's resume? For the sport...this will probably end up being like Mayweather-DLH last year...that one day of the year when general sports fans become quasi-boxing fans and sports pages and highlight shows feature the sport prominently. Given that it should actually be more entertaining than Mayweather-DLH, I don't think it hurts the sport among general sports fans, who probably won't care that much about the size difference or the apparent mismatch (at least on paper). For DLH's resume...he won't get anything for winning...and only hurts him if it's close or he somehow loses.
IMO, it's bad for the sport in that it will be sold as its major championship - boxing's version of the Super Bowl, World Series or what have you. In essence, we're telling the rest of the world the best we have to offer is our most bankable fighter - a shell of his former self in present state - against the worst available version of the best available fighter. It's worse for the sport in that every other fight we have between now and then will go virtually ignored, which is why it makes me sick when Arum and Schaefer try to spin it otherwise. It brings attention to one event, not the sport as a whole.
Ron King voted "It is good":: I guess he wants a Mexican to destroy the Mexican killer very badly. This fight is going to be very onesided.
What would be the equivalent in other sports? MMA: Miguel Torres vs BJ Penn College Football:Hawaii vs Florida Pro Football: Dolphins vs Patriots or Oakland vs San Diego:hammert: Baseball:Waipahu Little League team vs College World Series runner ups. Feel free to add your own.
iT DEPENDS ON the fight. It always does. If it is a good fight, then it was good. If Oscar walks him down and stops him in two, then it is bad. If Oscar loses, I don't care. I will be happy.
It doesn't help Oscar's legacy in boxing. But his legacy is already done. Another win or loss doesn't make a difference. The people that hate Delahoya were gonna hate him regardless of his oponent. The thing is Oscar stopped being a real fighter years ago and stopped giving a fuck about what people think of his carreer. He is older and past his prime yet his fights keep selling more and more. same with Pacquiao who has everything to gain with this fight. People need to stop acting like he is gonna die in the ring. This is not a real fight and people need to act accordingly.

Unless the only criteria that makes something "good" for boxing is public exposure, i don't see how someone can see this is as anything but terrible. Manny just moved up to 135 in his last fight. He looked great and the lightweight division is stacked at the moment. Pac could further his greatness and provide some more exciting fights. Instead he's going after the golden goose. With the money at stake you can't exactly blame him, but that doesn't mean as a fan you have to be happy about it. I'm not getting any percentage of that money. What about after the fight? Will he move back down to lightweight? Will moving up to 147ish affect him negatively? More importantly once Manny cashes that big cheque will he still even care about boxing? De La Hoya retires with yet another massive payday and leaves the best P4P fighter coming off a loss. How exactly is this good for boxing?
I voted good I think Pac could possibly win and that would be impressive either way this fight will make people tune in to boxing and that is always a good thing
I hope Pac drops him, stops him and then when DLH is laid out on his back.. Pac will drop his drawers and drop a long strinny, steamy, philapeno log into DLH's open unconsious mouth
another 1.5+ miillion ppv fight for DE LA HOYA... if you check yahoo.com boxing section polls..."how will DLH vs. Pac end"...40% of the people that took the poll are picking PAC by KO ... another 22% are picking him by Decision...::
This is a shitty fight regardless of the outcome. DLH has no business fighting Pac and Pac has no business fighting DLH. There is no way in hell I will tune in to watch this circus. This shit is as bad a Mike Tysons circus shows. I'll Holla 5000
