Did any of you guys listen to the NYC press conference? I was fortunate enough to grill Roy about fighting Joe in the center of the ring as well as off the ropes.

And...I may or may not be right about who wins but I AM right about what I first mentioned here MONTHS AGO in regards to what his strategy will be--really it's very obvious. Roy Jones is not living in the past. And his strategy will be to win the fight off the ropes. Fenech-Nelson II, Toney-Jirov...that's the plan.

Some of you think he can't execute and you may be right. But based on his answers - and the matchup of styles - that's exactly what he intends to do.

Where is the press conference? I've been hoping to watch it.

You can find it on boxingscene. But the presser is just garbage. The better stuff are the roundtable discussions - which you can also find there.

Calzaghe: "The winner of this fight is gonna be the fighter who adapts to the other fighter's style best"....

    .....spot on

And I am telling you that i am the best tasting sandwich since Chopped Liver!!! Unlike the Sumarian Copulative they use for "to be" opun where it was believed when uttered being would magically ensconse so directed from the word... it don't make it so.

Roy can say anything at a presser! :dunno: I hope your right though and I hope that the size of Roy's head becomes a factor... being that it is small maybe Joe won't find it.

    What...is...your...point?

Sure, he can say anything at a presser. Did you listen to what he said?

His point is pretty clear I thought. Roy is known for saying one thing and doing another. He's impossible to take seriously.

Man, you don't even need Roy to say it. What's he gonna do, box circles around Calzaghe using his legs? Hell nah.

I asked him several specific questions and I believe he was pretty candid:

Basically said that at 39, he can't move the way he used to (don't think he's lying there).

Said that he HAS to use the ropes because of it. And so forth and so forth.

I was partially joshing Kenneth! But frankly I do think it is dangerous that he gets trapped in corners these days. No Joe is not that kind if pressure guy but Joe is smart enough and enough of a pressure guy that he could beat on Roy like Tarver did and do a few more things that could win the fight.

I just don't know if Roy can ever fight off the ropes is all. I hope he can I really want him to win this fight.

Joe and Tarver...completely different styles. One allows for plenty of countering opportunities...plenty. The other uses his long, sometimes pawing jab - as well as his height - to keep those chances at a minimum.

Furthermore, I don't understand why people keep referring to the first Tarver fight as proof that Jones shouldn't fight off the ropes. When they fought the third time, it was Tarver getting hammered when he pushed Jones there. So much so that he attempted to keep Roy in the middle of the ring where he held the advantage over his slower, terrified foe.

So yes, Jones can fight off the ropes. And he knows he'll have to against a guy like Calzaghe who won't be able to resist pushing him there.

since RJJ's "come-back" the most impressive thing he did was the combination he hurt Hanshaw with. it was reminiscent of his earlier stuff in which his opponent's head was sent reeling in three different directions in a matter of 1 second.

if he can bait sloppy in and land combos like that (he still has his handspeed), i guarantee sloppy will become intimidated and lose a decision. sloppy doesn't have the courage of Johnson and he doesn't have the defense of Tarver.

    Even though i thought calzaghe

beat hopkins by a fair margin, he did have trouble with bernard's handspeed. So what the hell is he going to do with roy's handspeed? roy's hands have to be speedier than hopkins hands.
