NEW YORK (Oct. 3, 2008) – History will be made on Saturday, Nov. 1, when World Boxing Association (WBA) and World Boxing Council (WBC) super flyweight world champion Cristian Mijares climbs into the ring to face International Boxing Federation (IBF) world champion Vic “Raging Bull†Darchinyan at the The Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif. Mijares and Darchinyan are fighting in the very first 115-pound World Championship Unification. The historic showdown is being co-promoted by DiBella Entertainment, KO Entertainment and Gary Shaw Productions and will air live on SHOWTIME beginning at 9 p.m. ET/PT (delayed on the West Coast) with a 12-round super middleweight (168 pounds) special attraction – Andre Dirrell vs. Victor Oganov. http://fightbeat.com/news_details.php?NW=21843
Not likely. Mijares don't punch that hard. but he will make Vic look like a caveman with his primitive skills.
Wow, a venue found four weeks before the fight? Shaw's almost getting the hang of this promoting gig. Still, a good location, if anything gives Vic an (adopted) hometown advantage, which should make for a great atmosphere. Not sure I really care for Dirrell-Oganov. Sure Oganov stands a punchers chance against anyone, but as far as televised co-features go, they could've done a lot better in presenting a legit test for Dirrell.
Oganov is a massive step back for Dirrell, IMO...but he will look a million bucks and perhaps thats the only goal.
Thank you - that's what I wanted to say, but didn;t want to be accused of being a bitter ungrateful cunt. Well maybe I am anyway, but at least for this one occasion. But seriously, anything short of getting knocked out himself, what's Dirrell going to prove about Oganov that wasn't already exposed against Fenando Zuniga.
there are armenians in carson? if mijares was somoan maybe it would sell well, I expect a spare crowd for this 1.
There's a sizeable Armenian community in So Cal...you can check some of them out on KUW The Kardashians. I remember seeing some flags out for Darchinyan when he fought Burgos at HDC...and when he fights in Vegas.
It was Fulgencio so going 9 rounds with him just shows me he will stick around long enough against Dirrell to test that chin and then it might very well be lights out for Andre... That is a very LIVE puncher's chance we are talking about here. And @ tam - wtf a step back??? That guy is no 16 at boxrec and no matter what u think about their rankings probably the best opponent of Dirrells career.
:atu: The fuck he is. Useless ass Hanshaw is better than Oganov. I'd say even that joke NY former prospect is too.
I'll be the one laughing after he is done with Dirrell! :fightme: and it's still not a step back from that Paschall bum!
if shaw was wiser he wouldve put the fight somewhere closer to glendale/hollywood where all the armenians live. carson is way across town.
you know what I mean. I know it sucks to drive anywhere in SoCal, but how far is Glendale from Carson - an hour or so? I'd like to believe that Vic's traveling band will gladly make the trek for the biggest fight of his career. I'm not saying it will be a sell out, but probably at least as well of a turnout as Shane-Mayorga - and this one with some fans even paying for their tickets
so if someone fought Roy Jones in his prime he will be taking a step back everytime he steps in the ring again... :notallthere: it's also not a step back from his overall body of resuma just MAYBE from his best two opponents so far and that isn't even sure...
Yeah, but two fights ago he was barely fighting live bodies. Speaking of those past opponents, Curtis Stevens should really change his nickname to something more fitting...like Comcast or ESPN2.
