That is why you are a mythical matchups King....once again you can't predict REAL FIGHTS for beans...and so you stick with MM knowing that the fights can never happen..and pick guys like Norton to Stop Marciano.

Hopkins just dominated Pavlik and proved once again that you have no clue as to how to analyze fights.

I won't go against your pick although I do want Jones to win. Who knows? Maybe the Hopkins performance has inspired him and we'll get something special from the old fellow? Maybe he'll conjur up the 'peak Jones' of the past one more time and shock the world? :kidcool:

Jones used to win mainly of raw unadulterrated talent (the most talent of any fighter in history). He's not and never has been as SMART as Bernard Hopkins (very few in history have been).

Jones at this age does not have the raw talent to beat Calzaghe...and his smarts will not compensate for this.

Calzaghe beats him up and down from round 4 onwards...and like I said before..it would depend upon Jones' heart as to whether he survives the distance or not...

Hopkins was sublime. This was even easier than the Trinidad fight. I thought B-Hop would win too but I thought Pavlik would at least win a couple of rounds.

I'll say its the best performance of Hopkins' career. He looked like a 26 year old and Pavlik looked 43.

Even though Sly'svictory is a bit overshadowed by the fact that he'd pick even Michel Piccirillo over Pavlik, this was a very good call. Which I already said in th third post of this thread btw:kidcool:

Hmmm...remember when you picked Jermaine Taylor to beat Pavlik?? Do you also remember that I picked Pavlik in that fight? Who was right and who was wrong??? And who was so upset when Pavlik won that he lowered himself to referring to Pavlik as PavliKKK??

Since you picked Taylor to win and he got KOed by Pavlik, does that mean you don't know BEANS about picking REAL FIGHTS?

You went out on a limb and picked Hopkins...so bully for you. But if Hopkins had lost you would have either disappeared for a while or claimed it didn't matter because Hopkins is old. Kinda like you did with Tyson-Lewis. Picking Tyson to win by early KO and then claiming after the fight that you knew all along that Lewis would win.

Everyone makes a wrong pick once in a while. And immature and insecure folks feel the need to brag about the correct picks they make.

Since you are SO desperate to get praise for this pick, then congrats! Nice pick or whatever other complimentary words that apparently need to help you sleep better at night.

that is absolutely correct... Although I don't know about the fight results because Joe is slowing down a bit as well.

I actually think at this point Calzighe may slow down a bit and Roy might come up a bit making them a little more equal for this fight. I have to see if I am going to stick with Calzighe to beat Jones.

Sly's pathetic chest beating aside...this was an impressive win by Hopkins. Congrats to the Executioner for a great win.

agREED with all... except unlike you, I picked Pavlik to win, expecting an 8-4 type of decision. By round four, I was hoping Pavlik could at least make it an 8-4 loss but he didn't even accomplish that much.

If this was a Mythical matchup you'd be acting like an e-tough guy as usual because you would know that there is no way of actually proving you wrong (even though you make ridiculous statements like Norton would stop Marciano in the middle rounds) .

That's what I like about the REAL fights...your lack of analytical ability is exposed time and time again.

You are invariably proven wrong because you tend to simply pick the favourite...which is the way of the Mythical matchup forum.

You're a historian, nothing more, nothing less...you don't really understand the science of the sport.

I'll conduct some lessons for you via conference call...I'll PM you the phone number...

I know you think you sound clever and smart here, but you really don't.

It was an impressive win by Hopkins. Good for him. There's nothing more that needs to be said than that. I have always been a Hopkins fan...even though I don't nuthug him the way you do.

Again...remember when you picked Taylor over Pavlik? Where was your analytical ability then? You're choosing to avoid that because you were totally wrong. Not only did Taylor lose, but he was KOed. And the funniest thing was you trying to claim partial credit for the wrong prediction because Pavlik was knocked down early.

I've had plenty of correct picks and some incorrect ones, like pretty much everyone else. The difference is that I don't need to throw a party for myself when I am correct.

Sly, you need to calm down a little bit, this correct pick is inflating your already over-inflated ego, and everybody knows now that you had a correct pick, no need to repeat it in each and every thread.

 I enjoy riling you up.

True I was wrong on that one...one of the very few times. But my analytical ability was just fine...because Taylor almost stopped Pavlik...and I was told before the fight that no way could Taylor hurt pavlik seeing that he never hurt Spinks or Ouma..but I said that this is a different fight stylistically. Had Taylor NOT run out of gas and stopped Pavlik when he had him down and badly shaken up..we'd be saying something different.

But...true...I was indeed wrong in my prediction and concede that point.

You, however, didn't give Hopkins a shot at winning and Pavlik never came close even for a second.

I'd matchup my overall prediction record (in actual fights) against yours any day of the week though...

...although in mythical matchups you have a 100% accuracy in predictions.

Yup Hopkins-Pavlik and Pavlik-Taylor were two completely different fights. Many people still had Taylor winning the fight at the time of the stoppage, and everyone agrees the second fight was very close. I kindof wish Taylor would have finished off the 2nd round KO on Pavlik so we wouldn't had had to hear about what a phenomenom he is for the last couple years.

The bottom line is that Taylor was not good enough to stop Pavlik when Kelly was hurt. Pavlik was able to take what Taylor had to offer and then rally back to win by KO. Pavlik was the better fighter that night and that was all there was to it. And claiming Pavlik was "almost stopped" is entirely subjective. Pavlik was hurt, but he recovered well.

Any way you slice it, claiming partial credit for a prediction is weak and self-serving.

Oh...and I don't recall picking Norton by "middle rounds TKO". Now my memory may be faulty...so please show me exactly when I picked Norton to TKO Marciano in the middle rounds in the MM forum. I did pick Norton to win by TKO, but I never said "middle rounds".Or is this just more Slystaff exaggeration to "prove" (term used very loosely) a "point".

I'm reminded of the post fight interview with Pavlik after the first Taylor fight. Larry asked Kelly if the difference in the fight was that Pav was able to recover and continue fighting back after being hit.

Pavlik said something to the effect of "Yeah, but i didn't get as hard as he did"

    Good call Sly..

Hopkins performance is the exact reason why I would never bet against the guy. He could be 50 and come back to fight Godzilla, and I wouldn't put money against him.

Brother Sly,Your prediction may have been spot on regarding the Hopkins/Pavlik fight. Though u had many doubters that attempted to bash you and you proved them wrong. However dawg you will be proven wrong when RJ beats the shit outta Calzaghe. Like B-hop Roy will also rise to the occaision and turn back the hands of clock and put on a very pre-Tarver/Johnson Roy Jones Jr type performance. When Roy dominates Calzaghe I will not hold this one over ur head like the haters on this site. I'll Holla 5000

I would actually be happy to be proven wrong on this one. You KNOW I'm a die hard Roy Jones fan like yourself dawg. I just can't see it....I hope you're right.

translation - "I have no life. Nobody likes me, so since I'm batting .500 in regards to Kelly Pavlik fights, please guys stop making fun of me for 5 minutes so I can gloat about picking someone I like to win. I know if Hopkins had lost I'd be making excuses and never bringing this up until the next time I got lucky. My D&D guild master has been really hard on me lately about trying to be something I'm not. And my mommy won't make me lunchables anymore, she doesn't even know the pain I feel...(sigh). But guys seriously, (tear) I'm just a lonely horse about to be made into dog food, can you guys...please just listen to me and think im cool...just for (tear)...just for 2 seconds."

It's not as if you actually predicted that Hopkins would be faster and beat Pavlik to the punch and use his footwork to stay away.

Everyone knows you picked Hopkins becasue he's the right color.

Nice try but I don't see where you said Hopkins speed would be the biggest factor in the fight. He didn't hold much either, just slipped out of harms way wth his superior footwork. He moved more than I've seen him move in some time.

Face it Mr Ed, we know why you picked Hops.
