That is because he didn't beat Winky wRIGHT. I had it a draw and I pretty sure HBO did as well although I am not positive.

Prime by prime Roy was the better fighter, more complete, a marvel to watch. But as career acomplishments is concerned, Hopkins has a better record, more recognizable names in his resume and his defeats were very close decisions, not via humiliating KO (oops!).

I didn't see the fight yet, but I definitely see BHOP uses RJJ as a prototype of what not to do. You see BHOP went up in weight and pretty much stayed in that weight range 170-175. He saw what happen to RJJ trying to kill himself to get back where he was and it almost cost him his career.

Roy still better because he went up and won the HW title. It's not an easy task even if it's just Ruiz and has only been done in about a 100 years.

Most of BHOPs biggest names were fighting smallers guys moving up.

Hopkins began his career at light heavyweight so it's not quite the same thing. Hopkins had the frame to fight at light heavyweight before he moved up to fight Tarver.

He's just insane with how well conditioned he keeps his body. It's one of the most important aspects of why he's been as good as he is and why he's still as good as he is.

So Hopkins is actually 1-2 at LHW. I guess you can count the Pavlik fight too so he's 2-2.

If Roy beats Calzaghe that pretty much decides it right there. Hopkins couldn't do it. I rate Roy higher regardless of the Calzaghe outcome though.

Hopkins sure has been doing alot of catching up to Roy. If somebody said Hops was greater then Roy 3 years ago, it would have been a fanboy mentallity. Now it is arguable. Nards recent competition since 2005 has been the best in boxing.

    Roy Jones. HANDS DOWN!!!

Hell,...James Toney has a better resume than Hopkins to an extent.

There is no comparison. Fights fans are like women. Hopkins won a few days ago; therefore he always wins. Hopkins' has had a putrid level of opposition. Hopkins wins against smaller fighters. Wow. Roy was never too brave, imo but he dominated bigger guys. Hopkins struggled with DLH until DLH took a dive.

    Exactly.

Hopkins has been more impressive since he got beat by Taylor than he ever was at 160.

    Incredible.

As of right now, B-Hop has a slight edge in greatness. But if Roy beats Joe, Roy will once again be greater.

But greatness aside, prime-for-prime.... Roy was better.

I dunno if Roy would stop Pavlik now. He couldnt even stop Tito. A younger Roy would have stopped Pav though, and quite brutally.

Ignoring knowledge and indulging in echolocation.

When the plague of hype is blown against us,.. nobody has as severe an allergy to it, than you do,.. you rattle around like a brutalised atari joystick you poor soul [IMG], you crunch yourself from one opposite end to the other so severely that it is no suprise when you become a bit disfunctional as a result,...

Roy has set benchmarks, that Bernard will never reach, having extensively a greater resume at a higher weight, and whupping Bernard's arse, one on one in the process,... that surely has to constitute superior 'greatness' .... These 'name' fighters have weights and sizes,.. .. when Hopkins dragged Pavlik and Winky up to the 170's...who's to say that is a stronger accomplishment, than defeating a legitimate, proven, Light-heavyweight contender like Tavoris Cloud?... Will Pavlik or Winky rule Lightheavyweight once Bernard is gone?....HELL, fucking, NO..

As a Roy fan, I want to say Roy is greater.

Head to head I believe he is.

Career wise however, Hopkins probably gets the nod though. Roy's comp level should have been much, much better than it ended up being.

Is there any indication Roy Jones is not washed up? I must have missed it. That´s the same guy that struggled to decisions with Hanshaw and Prince Ajahitachi, right? Roy couldn´t beat ANY of the guys Bernard has fought in the last six fights, not Calzaghe, not Pavlik, not Tarver, not Winky, not Taylor.

    Anyway Hopkins is greater.

even roy's biggest fans on here are saying that hopkins has achieved greater accomplishments.

but like them, i agree that jones at his best is better and would've beaten everyone that hopkins beat or lost to.

If Roy beats Calzaghe and then retires. He would have redeemed himself, IMO, of the losses to Johnson and Tarver.

But Calzaghe is going to beat him if i fear..

There's more chance of Tyson beating Vitally and redeeming his loses to Williams and McBride.
