Maybe it is just hype but what if there is truth to it? It would make a difference.

Some people cancel fights, why couldn't he? I mean, if I were that sick, I wouldn't risk my health for anything...

cancelling or postponing the week of a big ppv fight spells financial disaster.

Hopkins is an awful challenge for anyone being pulled up to his catch-weight,... is he a challenge to a genuine top Light-heavyweight like Chad Dawson?.. that is something we'll never find out,... but it's always amazing,..:boohoo: that 'things go wrong' leading up to the tougher challenges, and the losers, never seem to catch severe illnesses before, or obtain severe injuries during fights against the 20 or 30 other scrub/mediocre opponents on thier resume over the years.

Agreed. Pavlik was in the same situation as Guzman. Little guy from foreign island with no marketing potential. HBO would have never televised another fight of his. It would have been back to Versus. :shit:

well i hate excuses, especially when they're delivered from the fighters' people rather than the fighter himself, but anyone who pretends that Pavlik's performance didn't lack the passion and urgency of his previous bouts is kidding themselves. Whether you want to attribute that to Hopkins or not, I think you have to allow for the possibility that Pavlik was less than 100% for the fight.

And like Dan said, it's not to say he would've won in any case necessarily, but once again, I detected in Pavlik's performance a distinct lack of passion and savagery we've become accustomed to seeing him display.

Plus, I hate Hopkins, so any doubt as to his superiority is fine by me.

And thats the point. Fuck Pavlik and his excuses! If he was THAT sick, he shoulda pulled out. Bottom line! He should know that in this sport if you're not 100%, you will lose! The fact that he refueses to give Hopkins any credit at all makes me lose alot of respect for him. B-Hop should just give him a rematch, and whup his ass again, but I doubt he'll waste his time.

At this rate, I might actually root for Abraham to knock this penis looking hick the fuck out!

BTW - Double you say you hate excuses, but you coulda fooled the FUCK outta everyone here with that one! Since everytime one of your favs, or a fighter you picked loses, excuses are all you seem to have.

World class professionals my ass! Excuse-making bitches more like. He was ill with fear more than anything. I hate excuse-making bitches. The guy got exposed as a limited boxer. Bottom line. Now his crew are trying to spin sh*t to keep him marketable so as to cash in for future fights. The Pavlik ppv-train crashed and burned.

He gave Hopkins plenty of credit. He said Hopkins taught him a lesson. What better way to give him his due? You're just not paying attention.

Will nobody concede that Pavlik didn't seem like himself in there? Whether you think he would've won or not if he had?

Looked every bit like Kelly Pavlik to me. He never fights any different. His opponent sure did though.

That is just Hopkins...did Trinidad/Tarver/Winky/Calslappy/Pavlik look like themselves? NO...cause Hopkins was making them fight his fight..Hopkins knew all Pavlik had was the jab/right hand..he moved away from the right..counter it every time..either before/after Pavlik threw it...same thing with Tito left hook he moved away from it and kept his right hand high glue to his chin.....and everytime Pavlik connected with the right hand clean..Hopkins made sure to hit him back with a hard right hand...

At any rate, Pavlik's excuse is irrelevant.

He just wasn't good enough, or, at the very least, possess the skill set to stylistically trouble Hopkins (and a 43 year-old version at that).

Pavlik was slow, lumbering, predictable and easy to time. Other than youth, and with it, supposed advantages in strength and stamina (which were practically worthless in light of his other limitations and handicaps), he had nothing for Bernard.

Roy, Taylor and Calzaghe made Bernard, 'fight thier fight'... and they even had to walk through Hopkins gauntlet of backing up and stink trapping in order to do it!....GASP!.. that's what you call OWoooooooowoooooooooowNED!!!!!!!!!!, .........when you've deliberately made fighters come to you all night,.. but still losssssssssssssst...that's 'unbelieveable'.

Jesus Double... Don't be that stupid. There are countless reasons for a fighter not looking like him/herself, one of them may have been a tough ex con from Philly for example.

Pavlik had a case of the slows

and hopkins had a case of the speed. Pavlik had no speed whatsoever. That's why he was scared to throw a punch, Hopkins had 3 times the speed and was making pavlik pay dearly every lanky, slow, innaccurate punch he threw.

Pavlik said a lot of stupid shit in the locker room interview, to be honest. I kind of want to give it a pass, and chalk it up to frustration and his inability to rationally gather his thoughts. But who's to say that's not who he really is when forced to deal with disappointment. He looked like he wanted to be anywhere else but in the ring when Bernard gave him that half-assed motivational speech after the decision was announced.

I suppose it would be easier to criticise Pavlik if Hopkins was your lordship when it came to graciousness after frequent arse-whippings,...that certainly isnt the case, so Hopkins groupies in here, do look like they're calling the pot...

Pavlik was outclassed it's that simple. You can't just blame it on the style.

No elite fighter shoud lose to a 43 year old man 12-0

I wouldn't even critize Pavlik for just losing but it was the way he lost.

Speaking of excuses,..? :dunno: This is precisely what is said when Hopkins can't deal with a particular style.
