Floyd is far from an all-timer

He's one of the best of his era, but he lacks the kind of fights Hopkins have had to be considered an all timer. Now is the time for him to fight Margarito and get on that level. If the odds are against him and he proves everybody wrong against a worthy and highly regarded opponent, then that's a defining fight. To cap it off, he can fight Williams at 154 lbs, if he wins, then retire and become an all timer. His resume along with his talent can get him up there if he improves the former.

I guess you missed my sarcasm.

I agree with you completely. Floyd can go down as one of the best ever with 2-3 more wins against the REAL competition. But we all know that this isn't going to happen.

I like margarito and he's certainly among the top two welterweights right now. let's be real here, the guy is not one of the best welters in a historical sense. probably not even top 25. a victory over him would be an excellent win for mayweather but it isn't something that will make or break how his career is viewed in the next few decades.

I disagree. For the last 3 years people have been calling for this fight, and since beating Cotto it's clear that it should have happened.

In that time Floyd's had a good 6-7 fights against fighters who the majority of the public thought weren't as worthy as Margarito. That's why it's a big cross on Floyd's claims to greatness at this point.

Margarito won't go down as an all-time great but that doesn't mean he won't affect Floyds ability to do so.

If Floyd stays retired, decades from now there will be people (such as me) who will say Floyd doesn't deserve a place in the top 10 because he ducked Margarito for years and as soon as he earnt his shot, and another serious threat in Williams came along, Floyd retired.

If Floyd comes out and beats both of them i'll change my tune completely, however based on past history i won't hold my breath.

beating margarito aint gonna boost mayweather into the ten greatest fighters of all time. he could beat margarito down in 3 one sided rounds and it wouldn't matter. he could beat margarito and williams and i wouldn't rank him among the 10 greatest ever.

:nono: I think Margarito will end up being great, you bastards..
.....but not in the way that is usually 'required' ,... no Margarito's boxing skills are not polished,.. no he doesn't run from his opponents and win on points most of the time,.. no he doesn't use illegal implimentation or the rules so called 'grey areas' as an integral part of his style, his greatness lies within the fact that his raw durability, relentless pressure and ferocity claws it's way through an opponents skills and bites the soul, ..skills that are possessed like say??...Fraud Mayweather,... and indeed Fraud sees this,.. ..but he doesn't just fear Margarito though,.. he fears the referee in the ring with Margarito,.. Fraud knows that the elbow, the palms, the backtwisting, all his dirty little secrets will be displayed like never before,.. and if any of those CRUCIAL CRUCIAL elements of his defence are taken away from him,.. ..Margarito has 7 or 8 rounds of relentess workrate, with a cactus that has lost it's thorns,....

I'd like to see mayweather fight cotto still, if he were to come back. because it would be an exciting fight. fights against margarito and williams would not be exciting to watch. because mayweather would have to fight in a very negative boring manner to have a chance at winning.

would you rank mayweather top 10 greatest ever if he beat those two guys convincingly?

I am with Neil on this one. :bears:

On Floyd's chances against the big welters Floyd is a lot stronger than most people think and unlike Cotto he would not overtrain to a point where he was too scrawny to measure up. The thing is Floyd wins ugly (as Neil said). He ties up, hits and holds and otherwise makes it so that Margarito and Williams cannot unload against him with their relative reach and size advantages. He would not try like Cotto did to slug and wait there in front to recieve.

Cotto is a tough fight for Floyd, tougher than people think. Cotto could hurt Floyd to the body and could counter Floyd on occasions.

regarding the rankings: The jury is out on Margrito and Williams. Lets see how they stand in five years time. Cotto could rematch and beat Margarito and williams could beat him and then people would not be having a conversation about Margarito's greatness. :dunno:

Instead of writing paragraphs about how I don't like this post, I'll write one sentence.

What's he going to do then? Travel back in time and beat the greats of other generations?

All time ranking depends on beating the best available competition in your era. Floyd clearly has more work to do. he did not beat the top guys at 140-147. He will go down as one of many great LW's, but beyond that, his resume isn't that impressive.

Agreed. His resume is sh*t for the most part. Barely edged out a completely shot and inactive DLH, beat up that bum Judah who came off a loss to Bumdomir, beat Bumdomir himself which didn't mean sh*t either in another boring ass fight, beat tiny Hatton who almost got KTFO by some nobody in Collazo the last time he made the trek to welterweight. Basically his whole career is overrated. P4P my ass! All time great....whatever!

Margarito would ass-f*ck that little bitch. Little bitch has been avoiding Margarito for years, instead opting to fight bums like Bumdomir and then parading around with his crappy meaningless belts like he's some hot sh*t. Farce!

Most of Floyd's career is based on conjecture. Coulda woulda should BS! Typical Floyd apologist and ass lickers. Everybody knows his bitch ass retired when Cotto and Margarito were hot on his heels. There was no escape so his bitch ass retired. Nothing you can do to hide the facts. Those are the facts.

I would pick Floyd over Margarito, but I also picked Cotto over Margarito.

My problem with dsimon's post had nothing to do with Floyd or Margarito.

NO i think more of you Mayweather nuthuggers...deep down are not sure how fights vs. Cotto,Margarito,Williams would go.....and the chance of Mayweather winning are not as lopsided as fights vs. Pacquiao,Judah,DLH...

Some years ago Roy Jones beat this guy named....Bernard Hopkins...i bet back then Jones was saying Bernard who?.....fast forward 14 years and Hopkins is top 3 Greatest Middleweight of all time...and probably top 25 Greatest boxers EVER.....

Mayweather moved to 147..and did not beat the best competition available...paper champ Bumdomir....and Judah...thats it...he never fought Cotto,Margarito or Williams...all 3 have shown to be "worth" a fight vs. Mayweather...

Mayweather only has one fight in mind if he's coming back...Pacquaio...he's simply staying in shape hoping Pac beats Oscar.

If Oscar beats Pac, don't count on him getting in with too much of anyone of substance.

To answer your question, beating ALL challengers/champions certainly would enhance his legacy. Part of what made Ali great is that he fought EVERYONE. Go look at the top ten heavyweights from the 70's and you will see that Ali fought and beat almost all of them.

So yes...cleaning up Williams, Margarito and Cotto WOULD in fact help his legacy. Top ten all-time...never gonna happen which gets back to my original point.

If that's the reasoning for his coming back then talking about fighting in and around welterweight is meaningless. He's already got a belt from 154, he needs to talk about getting a belt at 160 and/or 168. See if he can get Hopkins at a catchweight of 166.

"Bumdomir" might've been a weak champion compared to most others, but a paper champion, he was not. :nono:

Typically 'ewe' ...overrated Judah, your like a possum with eyes twisted at opposite angles,...and while half way through your meal, you give off a mindless cherp that makes the leaves fall out of your mouth,..
....you call Judah 'average' but Scrubdomir shit?.. don't you know that all impurities sink to the bottom?.. Please learn your lesson one day.
