I don't think he has much of a hope, but i'm including Calzaghe. I'm curious who would feel that would be the biggest win of his career.
In career sense it is undeniably the Ruiz win but I think Toney is the one where he showed what he was really capable of, pitching a shutout against a great fighter. That Jones was the best fighter ever
Jones was unreal against Toney. The Ruiz fight was a nice feat, considering the move up in weight. But he chose a weak titleholder.
I think this is how I would rank them...though I could probably be easily persuaded to order them differently. Edit: Well, actually, now that I see it's "biggest" win and not best win, I think maybe I would change it and put Ruiz above Griffin. 1. Toney 2. Griffin 3. Ruiz 4. Tarver 5. Hopkins I'd have to wait and see him beat Calzaghe before ranking it.
Its Toney. Realistically Toney is completely made to order for Roy. Same goes for Hopkins, and with Jay Nady Ruiz is made to order for anyone.
For me it has to be Ruiz. Jones is probably a natural 168 pounder, and Ruiz is no bum. That was a great win. Toney is of course the second best win, in part by how dominant Jones was.
Toney didn't start that much higher than Jones on the weight scale and he was able to "no contest" Ruiz pretty clearly. Granted he tested positive for steroids afterwards...but he'd have probably tested positive for a cream filling as well, so maybe it all cancels out.
Well said. Steroids don't give you skills. Toney completely embarrassed that bum Ruiz. It wasn't even a contest. Roy's best win is against Toney. Cupey
James Toney..... but that fight could be surpass if he beats Calzaghe...not because Calzaghe is better than Toney...but because of Jones level of shotness...
Based on some close McCallum fights and a Tiberi loss. And he lost his next fight legit against Montell. Oh yeah...Toney was so so great because he beat Barkley, according to HBO, anyway.
How come nobody brings up Roy Jones and Balco and the fact that he tested positive for steroids against Richard Hall? Why is that fight not a no contest? How come he wasn't suspended? Do I have to run for my life now?:stir:
I don't remember the details but both Roy and Hall tested positive for whatever substance it was. Also the numbers were apparently really over the top.
Toney-Rahman II changed to no contest http://www.baltimoresun.com/sports/boxing/bal-sp.digest29jul29,0,553225.column?track=rss Damn I didn't even hear about this, that sucks, all I remember from that fight was Rahman and his cornerman shaking their head and the ref waved the fight off.
If anybody cares to get a glimpse of the court transcripts pertaining to Balco then it is clear that Jones is a recidivistic offender. Mosley and DLH on the other hand as well are mentioned a lot.
During a 2003 interview, Indiana State Boxing Commissioner Jacob Hall said that Jones “was five or six times over an acceptable level†of steroid use, while Hall “was about ten times above an acceptable level.†What’s really bizarre about his description of the two artificial warriors is that there is “an acceptable level†of steroid use Doesn't sound over the top to me. Plus this was swept under the rug altogether with no consequences. I wonder how long these chaps have been on the special sauce and how much of their pro career they used the stuff.
Perhaps because the primary point of bringing up Toney-Ruiz was due to the fact both are in this poll and Richard Hall isn't. But you'd have to ask whoever referenced Toney's steroid use to begin with.
I have no idea. Perhaps it was a drug that wasn't banned completely unless it was abused? (ie: taken well beyond normal dosages) It might also be that the Indiana commision didn't follow proper protocol with their testing in some way?
Ruiz for me.. without a doubt haters like to downplay that win.. but Ruiz is a good fighter.. Roy whupped Ruiz
Considering an out of shape James Toney did it too, more convincingly if anything, I'd say beating Toney himself is more impressive.
The Toney win, without a doubt. People can claim Hopkins in retrospect, but the fight was garbage, neither really stood out and Jones' winning with one hand (which has now expanded to one arm, according to some in the media ) only became an alibi years later. Toney was the best in the world at the time of their fight, and Jones dominated from beginning to end. He turned a legitimate pound-for-pound grudge match into a one man show.
