Povetkin still IBF mandatory!

As Wladimir Klitschko has elected to fight the next leading available contender to complete his mandatory, If Klitschko retains the title on December 13, Povetkin should fight in a mandatory within the next nine months.â€￾

Rahman was the leading available contender. That is just wrong. :doh:

 

Oh well. Povetkin should have found a way to get to fight night instead of sitting on the sideline.

 

What's wrong with it? He's still guaranteed his shot. It's not fair to Wladimir (THE CHAMPION) if they mandated that he face Potvekin in 6 months IMO.

 

are you arguing that Povetkin should no longer be #1? Or that Rahman should satisfy a mandatory defense?

If it's the latter, then you're not reading this correctly. Giving him nine months to fight Povetkin is basically acknowledging this fight as an acceptable mandatory defense. Not to mention that he's not obligated to fight Povetkin next... nine months gives him plenty of time for an optional defense in between (HOPEFULLY against Valuev or Chagaev).
