    Byron Mitchell
    Peter Manfredo

    Who else?

Was the Veit KO legitimate? I seem to recall that was one of the KOs he registered that was without controversy.

Can anyone list any additional questionable stoppages?

    You're obsessed.

Mitchell agreed with the stoppage by the way, it wasn't premature.

So thus far we have one out of 46. That's pretty impressive a case Double L is making

who is the best fighter that Calzaghe has stopped, would be a better question. All his career defining wins (Eubank, Lacy, Kessler, Hopkins, RJJ) have come by decision.

Is the hope that listing these fights will somehow diminish Calzaghe's accomplishments?

I have hoped for years now that Calzaghe would meet a horrible ring demise. However, there comes a point where bias needs to be put aside and people should just appreciate that Joe really is a talented dude.

You can lump together all the perceived quick stoppages and the criticized wins against aging veterans in an attempt to smear Calzaghe's legacy. But in the end, the guy has fought in the professional ranks for 15 years and 24 championship fights and remains undefeated. That is an amazing feat no matter how it's spun or twisted in retrospect.

we've discussed Mitchell's tame response. he had the fore-thought not to bitch and moan for fear of missing out on future opportunities to fight abroad.

ok. let's add to the list, bad decisions.

the purpose of this thread isn't so much to discredit Sloppy. it's more an examination of the preferential treatment he received throughout most of his career.

even the Lacy fight, which 99% of viewers felt was a masterpiece of boxing, was fraught with holding, holding and hitting, grabbing around the neck, and countless breaks by the referee that if they didn't benefit Calzaghe certainly weren't necessary.

I'm not sure a lot of fans understand the impact the manner in which a referee conducts a fight can have on who wins.

One thing's for sure: Lacy never did figure out how to land punches on Sloppy inside without getting tied up. But let's not forget that holding is illegal. What if Joe were forced to fight Lacy inside, or circle the ring as Cotto did against Margarito. It could've been a completely different fight.

The only Calzaghe win I've been impressed with was his win over Kessler, and even in that case, his "style" (if you want to call it that) was so perfectly suited for neutralizing Kessler's strengths that it certainly didn't require him to dig deep in order to pull out the victory.

And whoever asked, "who cares" about the premature Manfredo stoppage should have their rights as a boxing fan revoked.

It's seeming like a micro-cosm of the stages that a civilization goes through as it approaches its demise. The final stage is apathy. A comment like, "who cares," when it comes to a premature stoppage is definitely apathetic.

How do you know that? Did he ever said that or you've just decided that it was the reason why he didn't protest?

I thought it was pretty questionable that the corner or the doctor didn't step in and stop the fight when Roy's face was gushing blood for 6 rounds.

sheika was getting pummeled. he's also a manfredo-like fighter, not very good. again, who cares?

why is this thread even necessary? those so called pre-mature wins came in against mediocre fighters.

the real question is whether calzaghe prematurely skeeted in double L's mother's retina while administering a barrage of slaps with his johnson to the bearer of junkie offsprings orbital bone

    sheika and manfredo

are about right. Though i thought manfredo had nothing left, he was hurt by a punch and that's why he covered up and didn't throw any punches. I would have let both fights continue until someone got ko'd.
