Sloppy beat Kessler. That was his biggest achievement. Whoopty doo. Who did Kessler ever beat that had everyone thinking he's so good? I'm not saying he's not a good fighter, but when he's the best win on a fighter's resume, it's not very impressive.

 

agree....Kessler is very good..but he has not fought anyone worth a damn....but he is young..and not retiring anytime soon..so that victory might look a lot better for Calzaghe in a few years....

beating a shot Hopkins is a better achievement than beating a shotgun Roy Jones jr...

yeah he showed promise by beating Andrade who is fun to watch fight and does a lot of damage to his opponents in a slow methodical way (see the Bute fight). But it certainly doesn't qualify as a signature victory that proves Kessler is a great.

The only "greats" Sloppy beat were in their 40's. And the Hopkins win was close. And RJJ, whatever you thought he was 10 or even 5 years ago, isn't shit these days. That much was made clear.

And Lacy? Clearly he was a mirage.

Sloppy just lacks significant wins. He's got the quantity but not the quality when it comes to his resume.

I really wish Pavlik, a healthy Pavlik, could've gotten a shot at Sloppy at 170. He could've completely redeemed himself with a win over Sloppy.

I don't get it. Those are three quality top ten fighters he's beaten. More than Calzaghe had done himself in the previous decade...and you guys are bashing him? It makes no sense.

Few fighters across any division had put together the little run that Kessler had in the year or so leading up to the Calzaghe fight. There's a reason it was a hyped up contest and it wasn't because of the Brits big mouths.

Now I think you should understand better. Hell yes there is a different standard for Jones and Kessler. Why? Because Jones is ranked by most as one of the best ever while Kessler for now is 'only' a solid champion. Sure Jones' record was enough to make him worthy champ but according to his talk, and the potential he demonstrated, he could have done more.
