Now HERE'S a good matchup. What do y'all think. I'm on the fence...but I think Kessler wins a close decision. Great fight though.
Historically, Eubank is the better fighter, but he was also night and day between 160 and 168. I'm sure more of it had to do w/ the Watson RE (which just so happened to be his first major super middleweight) than merely adding eight pounds... but anyway, the 168 version of Eubank loses a decision. I can see X's theory playing out, but my belief is that this is the one fight where his posing and taunting finally catches up to him, at least on the cards, if not physically.
I dont see Eubank as being a better fighter either. All he has over Kessler is the first Benn win, but if Kessler can ever fight and defeat Taylor, Pavlik, or Bute, or at least 2 outta the 3, I think it clearly puts him ahead of Eubank. Outside of maybe having a better chin, I really dont see what Eubank had over Kessler. Mikkel is every bit as quick as a prime Chris, and much better technically.
Actually, I'd reckon Eubanks was a bit quicker and had a bit more pop than Kessler does as well as his superior beard. His wins over Watson (albeit he didn't really win the first fight IMHO) are better by far than any win over Bute that Kessler might someday have. MTF
IF Kessler can fight and beat... damn, X I know this is mythical matchups, but can we factor in ACTUAL accomplishments at least just a little bit? Michael Watson and Graciano Rocchigiani rate very favorably against the best of the rest on Kessler's resume. I like Kessler and think he's mad talented - but for the moment his career defining win is Anthony Mundine (or even Andrade if we ask Double L). 40+ fights into his career, who he can and can't beat shouldn't still be a mystery.
