While IN HIS PRIME? What was the real reason in your view?

A combination of things. I do think he wanted to perserve his undefeated record though.

He had enough money and accomplished all he wanted to in the ring. He just beat DLH and undefeated top 5 P4P fighter Ricky Hatton and called it a day.

Part of me think he was burned out which is understandable.

Another part of me thinks he wasn't satisfied with his cut of a rematch with Oscar. he probably wanted the terms reversed and Oscar wouldn't budge.

Either way, I don't miss him.

i'm sure winning 6 belts in 5 divisions, having an an unbeaten record and making millions of dollars had something to do with it.

Cotto, Williams, and Maragarito, the irrelevants. Why would he be scared of them when he fought the real cream of the crop in Gatti, Zab and Baldomir?

indeed, why wait for Marciano, Holmes, Tyson, DLH, Danny Williams, Trinidad, Tarver to come around ? irony is that most people from that list who took out an old legend past his prime eventually had it happen to them too. I'm Glad Mayweather didnt wait that long. although he should comeback for a quick paycheck vs Pacman

who is that ? that is just amazing. he's smooth like :mj:

It will be best for the sport if Floyd is wiped out and his career left in ruins courtesy of Pacquiao.

just like the defender in this gif Pacman won't be able to catch him. he's very fast. just not fast enough for the impossible task of catching Floyd often enough

I think he got burned out. In fact I had predicted he was going to get burned out over 2 years ago because he seemed to be taking fight after fight after fight and didn't seem to be taking the usual break between fights everyone else was. I figured if Floyd didn't take a break he'd get lazy and lose. Admittedly I never thought he'd pull a Michael Jordan.

So when you think about it, this layoff Floyd is doing will do more to help secure his 0 than anything else.

Lost the hunger for it. In a way the same thing happened to Roy Jones. So I commend Floyd for retiring. Better to get out with all facilities in tact than end up like De La Hoya did against Pacquiao, getting embarrassed.

Why take the opportunities to try & prove your greatness, when enough people already believe it, anyway?

He established in the minds of enough people that he had nothing left to prove (despite not fighting the best guys in his division), & that he was P4P#1 (despite not proving that he was even the best guy in his division).

    Quit while the goings good..

It's funny how Williams is getting added to the list when it was everyone saying Cotto and a few saying Marg. now it's Williams. As I said when Floyd retired, there is always going to be someone else. You will never leave if you just keep taking the next fight people say you should.

It's easy to say that "there will always be one more fight", and if you applied that to Lewis, for instance, it would make sense.
-He had cleared out his division, beaten his contemporaries-done all he could do to stake a claim to greatness.
Yet people were still saying he should re Vitali, which was really just Lewis detractors clutching @ straws.

It's not the same with PBF.
Cotto, Margarito & Williams are his contemporaries.
He never even proved to be the best in his division

He retired with way too many questions unanswered.
-There is also SSM & PAC-Man.

As a boxing fan, I would feel dissapointed & in a sense cheated to see a great talent, & potential great fighter like PBF retire at this stage.
As a boxing fan I like to see a great talent seek out the greatest challenges available to him, & in so doing, legitimately stake his claim as a great fighter.

Winning very narrowly against a past-prime inactive for 2yrs DLH who had been beaten more convincingly by others when he was prime & active.
Throwing 35 punches a rnd against Baldomir(sp?) doesn't cut it for me.

As boxing fans we should demand more from a talent such as PBF.
Do you want to see PBF fight Cotto, Williams, Margarito, SSM?
Who are the best fighters he has fought?.
How do you think his best opponents stack up against Cotto, Williams, Margarito, SSM?-Pac-Man?

If it were just about avoiding Cotto and Margarito, then the timing sure was weird, since had a $20+ million payday coming up against DLH. Why not beat him, go to 40-0, collect another gigantic paycheck, and then retire?

Regardless I think he'll come back like most fighters do.

History won't be kind to Pretty Boy. Already most people have forgotten about him and nobody misses him. Worse yet, Pacquiao made a complete mockery out of Floyd's toughest opponent(DLH). It's bad enough Floyd ducked every tough guy out there and fought mainly a load of f*cking handpicked bums like Judah the joke and Bumdomir and his idiot fans tried to pass it off as legendary wins and some stupid sh*t like that.
1 loss and PBF's entire career will be crapped on. Believe that! Who the f*ck did this guy even beat? F*ckin' Gatti?!?!?! Sharmba Mitchell?!?!?!
Jeez! How this guy even has fans is beyond me!

    lol

Hanzy you have strange hate for Floyd who IMO is one of the best ever

he prolly will come back and fight Pac and destroy him , then haters like you will say "pac was too small"

you act like he ducked Margerito.. lol..

Margaerito lost to Paul Williams!! LOL!!!

FLoyd will come back, dominate pac and re-retire I hope for good. he has shown us the skills time and time again..
