Is Jim Lampley too emotional during big fights?

Didn't he do it a couple times?

I thought he also did it, where he corrected Lamlpey on a punch that the threw. I want to say it was the Goyo Vargas fight, or at least around that time.

That's the fight I was thinking of, but wasn't sure.

There's been times when announcers have said it was time for the ref to step in, but Lamps got interactive with that shit.

Like the time he pointed out the camera man talking to the fighters.::

yeah i think you're right on Goyo, but the most blatant was the Bruseles farce.

 

Tam Tam references are never out of place.

 

Lampley brings a lot to the telecast. I disagree with his positions enough that he isn't one of my favorites, but he does some things very well, perhaps better than anyone else such as creating drama and making you feel like you are watching a 'premium' telecast.

There is no one we can bring up that everyone will like.

 

I prefer Barry Tompkins

I have always thought he got a raw deal from HBO when they replaced him with Lamply.

Barry has a great sense of capturing the big moment...

Tompkins wasn't too bad, but he's really digressed. It's to the point where he's worse than Lamlpey, IMO.

i had forgotten that round... i like the commentary from lampley.. but that clip just sums up morales' career in terms of his lack of intelligence as a fighter, and the excellent action that we got as fans because of it

 

Yeah the worst was probably during the Hamed/Barrera fight. Lampley was paraphrasing Hamed who said that if he lost it was Allahs' will. As Barrera was having one of his big rounds in the fight Lampley says,"Well Allah knows how to spell B-A-R-R-E-R-A!!". I remember he got a lot of criticism for that.

 

Iit should only get criticized for being a stupid comment that makes no sense, not for supposedly being offensive.

Just finally saw HBO's doc on Gatti-Ward so I'm bumping this.

Lampley is one emo guy, crying throughout the doc.
