That's not what I meant. The Baldomir fight did nothing to affect Floyd negatively. He was rewarded with the biggest pay day of his career (by a mile) and the highest grossing PPV of all-time in his very next fight.
dsimon writes: Really? His legacy was put into question... rather severely due to that fight. Gatti was also a great payday by comparison. People were asking how the immortal Floyd could look so ordinary in what was supposed to be a clinic and turned out to be a way to question Floyd's status. I don't disagree with your point though. Hell yeah the money was right and I defended Floyd for the way he fought as well. I mean you dont take risks in that stuation... its boxing not bullfighting! But I do think that his legacy suffered. If Jones lost the patina of immortality against Glencoffe... hey Tarver could have been a lucky punch against the great one... well Floyd cemented certain negative perceptions in that fight that would come back to haunt him with Oscar imo. Its why a guy with some losses on his record can claim to be better than Floyd. Pacquio knocks em dead while Floyd runs away! and yes I am being sarcastic inthis last sentence.::
I don't mean to beat a dead Slystaff, but seriously how does winning 12-0 against a guy who has a granite chin hurt your legacy? I mean was Pernell Whitaker's Legacy hurt by shutting people out without KOing them? people seem to forget the object of boxing goes beyond KOing the other guy. Sometimes a shutout is as dominant as it gets
Good because its not happening. Ellerbe said that Floyd isn't fighting Hatton and no approach had been made.
It takes more skill sure, but not necessarily more ability. 1 punch KO power is a hell of an ability to have in boxing. Just imagine Floyd was chinny, and Baldomir had Hearns like power. Floyd could have clowned Baldomir for 10 rounds, got sparked with 1 punch in the 11th. All that skill would have gone down the drain. Botha clowned Tyson for 4 rounds, then got knocked senseless with 1 shot. Botha looked the more skilled fighter, but ultimately, even that version of Tyson had more ability as a fighter, the punch is the biggest equaliser of them all.
That's a good point, the skill vs ability angle. I mean Obi-Wan Kenobi probably had more skill than Darth Vader, but not the ability to make use of it and he got his ass kicked.
But he was LOSING until that point. In another round, Obi-Wan would've gotten KO'd. Do you think quitting on your stool means you could've won?
you don't now that. obi-wan was also LOSING in revenge of the sith then pulled it out when anakin got overconfident of his abilities.
Yeah but that's the first match, we're talking about the rematch when Obi-Wan was past his prime, and he didn't have the ability to pull the trigger anymore. He probably had more skill, but he couldn't pull the trigger, he was a part-time fighter by then and should've stayed retired.
Because like someone already said...Pacquiao is moving back down to either 135-140...if Mayweather wants to make it happen there so be it....and because MAYWEATHER has been campaigning at 147 for YEARS...and is still to fight the CLASS of the division....Cotto or Margarito... Us the "Fans" know that Cotto vs. Mayweather...Margarito vs. Mayweather will be a better more dangerous matchup for Mayweather....
dsimon writes: Sometimes it defies logic Jaws. I actually argued for Floyd in this case but there was a definite perception that Floyd's drawing power and his megastar status was jeapordized by not mixing it up and by avoiding Baldy.
No, Manny is more like Darth Maul but with more power, and less evil. I think Prime Darth Maul beats both Obi-wan and Vader in their primes.
