251 isn't what I'd call "in shape" for Frank Mir. He just got the right guy at the right time tonight. Noguira of prime is dead.
The big difference between Boxing PPV's and UFC PPV's is UFC gives you much more bang for your buck. You're always guaranteed 5 fights. And if fights run short, you get fights from the undercard. They give you as much action as they can. Sure, they may throw in video game commercials or promo's for a movie, but there's never more than 10 minutes between fights. Boxing PPV's, you get WAY TOO MUCH filler. And if the undercard fights end early, you get more filler. You don't earlier fights, you don't get highlights from the undercard, you just get more interviews and promo's. And before people start attacking me as bashing boxing, I'm not bashing boxing. I'm bashing the presentation of the PPV's, not the sport itself. Boxing would do well to follow UFC's example, cut back on the filler and use the undercard to their advantage. TFK
Mir fought a smart fight. That's the bottom line. He refused to go to the ground with Nog, and that took away Nog's biggest strength. When he knocked him down, he wouldn't follow him to the ground, and that was genius on his part. Nog's whole career he would get beat up, his opponent would tire out, he's get them on the ground and sub them. Mir would not let that happen. It may not be a popular opinion, but Mir using that strategy would probably beat a prime Nog. TFK
I missed the opening 10 minutes of the PPV, did they even mention Justin Eilers tonight? Big thumbs down if they didn't. TFK
Dude, you can't see what was plainly obvious? Noguira is washed up. Even in his prime when he stood and boxed, nobody kept drilling him with the same f*cking half assed punch every time. He used to move his feet, move his head, feint, throw punches back. He did nothing tonight because he couldn't and it had much more to do with him than it did with Mir carrying out a SUPREME INCREDIBLE MASTER GAME PLAN! Go watch Noguira vs Kharitonov from 2004 to get a clue of what Noguira could do on his feet. Mir got him at the right time. It didn't even have to be Mir, it could've been Gonzaga or Kongo for all I care. Nog was ready to be taken tonight by most anyone. Mir is the same Mir as before.
Nope, not his manager, just a spectator who saw Rashad getting owned for 2 rounds, and took advantage of his oportunity. C`mon, Rashad vs. Tito 2... who the hell wanted that? LOL Rashad / Griffen 2 would make for a great rematch, and would sell. On a side note, yes, i do train and manage fighters, but on a local level. :)
I'd agree that Griffin had the first two rounds in the bag, but ownage???? Nope. They were both close rounds and round 2 had the bigger gap if any. It was a 5 round fight though and Rashad was definitely winning the 3rd and prevented it from going to the scorecards and won. Griffin needs to get back in line, just like Rampage did.
I bet you he's never seen that fight before.Nogeira is clearly shot and anybody that's followed his career will agree.
BS move by the UFC for not acknowledging Eilers. He fought for them 4 times, was fighting for their title a couple years ago, and was part of MFS who had\has many fighters and champions in the UFC. TFK
I understand the history between the two, but very classless on Rampage's part to continue to beat on Wandy as one, he was clearly out, and two, the ref was trying to pull him off. TFK
I agree. While watching it I thought it was a pussy move. It's not like a few extra shots would erase the two beatings handed out by Silva. Hats off to Frank Mir for really improving his striking. But bigger than that, he had a great plan. The dude seriously studied film of Nog on his feet. Nog pulled straight back in exchanges and Frank took complete advantage. Is there a more likeable guy in all of sports than Griffin. The dude is class whether he wins or loses. Amazing that there was no mention of Eilers. Even Fedor got mentioned a couple of times. RIP.
U Guys R Going OVERBOARD w/the Rampage Criticism... MMA is a VIOLENT Sport & U POUND a Guy Out Until the Ref Pulls U Off, Whether U THINK He's Already "Done" or Not...REED's Seen PLENTY of Bouts where an Unconcious Guy Takes an EXTRA Shot or 2, as the Ref is Pulling his Conqueror Off... REED:hammert:
I agree. It's pretty fucking common in MMA actually. A guy goes down, he gets pounded, out or not. In fact, when has a fighter ever knocked another fighter down and thought, oh, he's out, I'll just stand here? When they knock a guy down, they are probably not even thinking about whether he's out or not, they are probably just thinking, fuck I better jump on him now to make damn sure he IS out if he's not already. And Rampage only landed a couple of punches before being pulled of anyway. I've seen much, much worse stoppages/poundings.
Griffin was busier and winning on points but he got straight up smashed to pieces at the end, beaten to a bloody mess. That's what counts. As Larry Merchant once said, Leading a 100m race for the first 60m doesn't mean you've won the race.
Actually, he landed one as Wanderlei went down and threw a couple near his head but not connecting. Fighters often keep going until the ref pulls them off. Chris Brennan almost got screwed by stopping before the ref told him to stop in Pride Bushido 1. As soon as the ref touched him, he stopped landing strikes. It's not like Wanderlei, who has to hold the ropes and keep stomping on a guy's head. For Wanderlei, what went around finally came around.
