Caballero - does anyone doubt he'd beat Vazquez if the two faced off. But we all know that fight is going to be put off as long as possible, if it happens at all.

What other fighters, guys who in all likelihood who distinguish themselves as the best in their division, but haven't been given the chance because of politics, managers, promoters, etc.?

    Double,

I never thought I'd live to see the day you were critical of De La Hoya. First Obama, now this? Unbelievable.

In case you forgot, Caballero became champ after undressing the Golden Boy hype-job Daniel Pounced On De Leon. Perhaps Oscar remain resentful.

i thought it was pathetic that De Leon, having been schooled by Caballero and beaten soundly, ended up the one on HBO and HBO PPV at least three times subsequently.

and i wouldn't expect Juanma to face Caballero anytime soon either.

i don't prefer Caballero's style of fighting but I do think if given the chance he could beat anyone in the 122 pound division.

and I think the unfortunate part is he'll never get the opportunity or the recognition because he's not with GBP or TR.

there has to be other examples. can't think of any right now.

How about Marquez as the Lightweight champ when Campbell has most of the belts?

    Another Golden Boy product.

    More criticism for Oscar?

Yes. HBO has definitely opened their arms to ODH's company and it's shaped the landscape of boxing today to a large extent. I don't think it's right. I think what should shape the landscape of boxing is the boxers themselves, and who's the best, and who's beaten the best.

Arum and King have all done the same. I think it's too bad. What's suddenly brought my attention to it? Such that I feel the need to make a thread about it? It was watching the football playoffs this weekend - seeing the way a real sport determines it's best competitors (although you could argue the NFL isn't perfect either when the 8-8 Chargers are in the playoffs while the Patriots are forced to sit it out).

But at least it's not arbitrary and at least it's not political. That's what I'd like to see less of when it comes to what runs boxing and determines the fights and fighters we see.

Cabellero is a bum, even by midget standards. Juanma might kill him. I am not kidding either. He might die.

why is it rubbish? you've provided no feedback, no evidence to the contrary, no insight. Nothing. All you've done is taken the time (not sure why), to call it rubbish and indirectly insult me in the process. seems to me it's your time spent creating, "rubbish," not mine.

you're "rubbish" as you like to say. find a new word. you sound like a peon - one with the audacity to speak - the worst kind. Save your breath.

if there's a lesson to be learned here for you, and my guess is there are many everywhere you look, it's that just because your pea brain can't find meaning in something or formulate a coherent opinion on it, doesn't make it rubbish. my suggestion is you take some time to think about that and only when some light bulbs have gone on in your head should you feel entitled to respond. Until then, continue to not forget that you're nothing but rubbish who's feedback is rubbish, and that you contribute nothing.

you may even be dumbing down this board with your rubbish stylings. please don't do that. let everyone think for themselves. and keep your rubbish stored safely in your rubbish brain. you pinheaded piece of rubbish. go eat some rubbish.

i'm not saying he's great. but at 122 he's pretty much a monster and my guess is there's not another fighter at 122 who could beat him there. and everyone knows it (except you apparently).

it's my opinion. i'm not a big fan of his. often, his fights are horrible to watch. but i don't think JuanMa could beat him. Sorry. You're over-rating JuanMa big-time if you think he'd "kill" Caballero, whether you meant it literally or not.

Someone asked recently Juanma what he thinks about Caballero as a possible opponent, Juanma smiled and answered "chopa" which can be translated as "piece of cake". Caballero has been calling out Juanma, but Juanma is more interested in a more lucrative bout with Israel Vazquez.

    btw,

Juanma is an awesome fighter to watch. And his manicial destructions of opponents are Trinidadesque, if ever there were such a thing.

And at this stage, if he couldn't beat Izzy, he'd certainly make it hard on him.

But for him to call Caballero a piece of cake - it's exactly the point I'm making. He'll duck him under the premise that he wants to fight Izzy. Meanwhile, Izzy is fighting Raffy a fourth time? There's no denying Caballero is being squeezed out. None.

Juanma's done nothing more than Caballero except to have a better promoter. De Leon salvaged some kind of career immediately following his one-sided loss to Caballero, yet Juanma is a proven commodity because he too beat De Leon?

Juanma DESTROYED Ponce De Leon....I wish Caballero would get his shot at the Mar,Vas,JuanMa..he would get blasted.

Considering the wars Mar and Vas had with each other...Caballero would be smart to take the fight with them now....Caballero fights like a fucking ape...winging his hands around like a girl...straight punches from Mar/JuanMa would rape him with no problem...

dude, caballero hits hard and often. and he's freakishly tall. and last time i checked juanma's best punch was his right-hook. let's see him land that on a 6' freak.

at any rate, i'm not saying he beats any of the three (raffy, izzy and juan ma), but he certainly deserves a shot and we all know he's not gonna get it. why? politics.

    other examples?

Juanma is also a southpaw....both of Caballero's defeats came at the hands of southpaws. Juanma right hook is good...but his straight left is also a big weapon..and if Ponce De Leon was landing it on CAballero so will Juanma.

Politics? Maybe..but also Caballero has no fan base to stand on...the other guys don't have huge fan base but because of their WARS against each other they have become much well know....and Juanma? Well he is just lucky..a good Puerto Rican boxer..in a weight division filled with good Mexican fighters....whenever they decided to make the fight it will sell well in Vegas/California/anywhere...

for the record, i wouldn't miss a juanma fight for the world. he's a demon inside. but it doesn't mean any amount of analysis, given caballero's achievements, means he doesn't desrve his chance to distinguish himself as the best.

For the record: right now the boxing fans in Puerto Rico consider JUANMA, NOT COTTO, THEIR IDOL! Not because of Cotto's loss, but because of the two, Juanma has the better personality, eager to please the fans and to make them feel proud. Cotto, with his drinking binges and boring personality has cost him the loss of his fanbase even in Caguas (Juanma is from Caguas too). So, yeah, Juanma is the new heir apparent of Trinidad's mantle.

nope. he's the number one ranked fighter, but has yet to face their #2 heavyweight, or even a formidable enough #3.

I have no real opinion of their policy one way or another, but agree with the lineal HVY title remaining vacant for the moment (and most likely for the rest of the year).
