Yeah. WTF was that all about?? Why did Arlovski make so much too???:bangh:

That was STUPID, to pay DLH 5 million. Stupid. They could have gotten Lesnar to throw his UFC belt in an Affliction trash can and then fight Fedor.

That's all but a gurantee. There's no way he would get paid less than Arlovski.

Good card and good show in general. However, anyone with any bussiness sense can see Affliction's NOT going to last long. They are paying out way to much money. It's funny an organization like Affliction tries to pay what the UFC does (and more), when there revenue is 1/1000th of the UFC's. Yeah they aren't going to last.

The best way for the UFC to have to pay fighters what they are worth would be to have a consistent threat. Not these organizations that fail.

I agree with both of you so I hope valdosta is wrong about Affliction being doomed to fail.

I see Affliction pays the "names" very well, but the rest of the guys are getting the same kind of pay as any other MMA org. Affliction is going to lose money if they keep paying these ridiculous purses to the top guys. 1.5M for Arlovski? That is fucking crazy.

With those kind of payouts, I doubt we see another Affliction event.

It pays to be a freelance fighter. Can you imagine the amount of fights Arlovski had to fight in the UFC to make the amount of coin he's only made in 3 fights as a freeagent?

IF your an established name in MMA,you really don't need the UFC.

There are very few fighters that can make a lot of money without the UFC. And there will be even less when Affliction inevitably goes under. Fedor, obviously is the exception to the rule. He's gonna make money no matter where he fights.

Affliction's biggest problem, looking long term, is they are Fedor and nothing else. Can you think of any fight that Afflction can put together that doesn't include Fedor, that can sell PPV's? Possibly something with Tito Ortiz, but I'm sure he'll price himself so high that it's gonna be tough to turn any kind of profit.

Fill me in here, why are these MMA cards so unprofitable vs boxing? How come they can sell out arenas as big as boxing events and sell as many PPvs yet paying their headliners a combined 1.8m is 'crazy'?

He left the UFC when he made a name for himself there.IF your new to the sport then the UFC is the place to be but eventually your going to want more money and more freedom which the UFC doesn't provide.

But what the UFC does provide is security. There's no guarantee that Dream, Affliction, Sengoku, etc, will be around in 2 years. Look how many MMA groups have folded or been bought out over recent years. Pride, EliteXC, WFA, IFL, Bodog, etc, etc, etc.

But will those promotions be willing to shell out the money like Affliction, which has proven to be a money loser, or will they model their business after the UFC, which is succesful?

Afflictions losing money for sure....but so was the UFC back in the day,so I'm hoping Affliction can improve along the way because I thought there recent show improved alot over there first one.I think the problem with these promotions is that they don't have anybody with Dana White work ethic. And like you said before, your not going to compete with the UFC off the bat, they need to jsut focus on there own product.

The thing with Affliction is, like I've said, they're Fedor and nothing else at this point. If Fedor loses, that's it, they're done. If Fedor retires, they're done. If Fedor gets hurt and can't fight for a year, is Affliction gonna be able to put on a marketable PPV?

Affliction's business model is terrible. Besides overpaying and losing money, they're not building toward the future. Who has Affliction pushed other than Fedor and a bunch of UFC castoffs?

Trust me, I think the more competition, the better. I loved EliteXC, Dream is great, HDNet shows a lot of small groups like Ring of Combat and MFC that are a lot of fun.

I heard that XFC, which is based out of Florida, just signed a deal with HDNet to start airing their fights. They do very well on a local level, bringing in about 10,000 fans to their events, which is a hell of a lot of people coming out to see a local show.

Right, if Affliction keeps afloat, or manages to be a profitable project, I see UFC as a stepping stone for future MMA stars at the peak/end of their careers.

:atu: :laughing:Thanks for the laugh, TFK.:bears: Security for who? For Dana White? Because sure as f*ck there's no security for the fighters. It's like the WWE. No union, no security, no pension plan or anything. You're on your own the whole way though unless you die on their watch such as a 'cage fatality' or something.

for them to throw so much money around, and not take care of the fundamentals, doesnt inspire confidence. how could they let tito interview fedor without giving him some guidance? a worse post-fight interview couldn't be imagined.
