I've just been busy with work projects. :stir: I've been watching fights and reading threads occasionally, just didn't really have time to post.

    I'm back for now.

Nice to be back and see all of the familiar names. I still think this is the best place to be for boxing talk. :bears:

I lived in Florida in the mid 90's and could have gone to the Byrd and Thorton fights, but again...it was Byrd and Thornton so I didn't miss much.

Plus, at the time was pointless to waste money I needed to save, now I have the discretionary income but Roy is :eek:ld:

The Thornton fight especially... I didn't even see the punch Roy KO'd him with until the replay.

I expected you to comment on why Duran's later career is completely forgiven while JC Chavez gets crucified for things that happened when his career was 80 fights and beyond.

Well I've 'seen' him, in the same way I've seen every other fighter mentioned in the thread - on a TV screen! And yes, the earliest footage available of Robinson, even if it is a couple years past best is the best fighter I've seen.

Contrary to popular myth, there is a fair amount of WELTERWEIGHT Surgar Ray Robinson footage available, and I have a good hour or two worth of it

Yeah, I was recently corrected on this on a Celtic forum, of all places. You have an hour or two!? Do the world a favour and youtube it! Seriously a lot of people would be very grateful.:bears:

Me too. Last night on ESPN Classic it was 3 hours of Robinson footage. It was Ringside: Ray Robinson P4P.

Robinson was incredible. I mean in the way he threw his combos. Just perfect balance, perfect leverage on every punch, power on every punch, and of course the blinding speed. Even though some of the guys they showed him destroying were cans, it was still impressive to watch. I have no doubt at all that if he was prime today NONE between 147-160 would beat him.

With today's divisions, I think his best weight would be 154. Since he was a big welterweight, and a small middleweight. Still he'd no problem at all going to 160, and quite possibly literally killing Pavlik.
