I believed Mayorga would win by decision and this is before Margarito lost to Shane. His straight forward wild,aggressive nature would press the action on Margarito. They both would have their moments, Margarito especially late in the fight but I believe the fight goes to decision and that Mayorga wins via 2-3 round margin on all 3 scorecars.
Right now Phony wins. Mayo is done. Prime Mayorga vs Phony... is a close fight. I might give Phony a slight edge based on his body punching, but it wouldnt be an easy fight. And who knows... if its proven Marg loaded his gloves, then his ENTIRE career has to be looked at, and he has be written off as an inferior fighter to Mayo.
I go back and forth on this one. Mayorga has some advantages in one shot punching power and hand speed. He's also a more awkward fighter. I think'd be able to land some of those looping power shots though Antonio's pourus defense. That said Margarito is always right in his oppponents face when he fights. That would provide difficulties for Mayorga who likes a little bit of distance to launch his power shots and use angles. The body punching also would help Margarito a lot down the stretch where Mayorga would be slowing down and he'd be picking up the pace. I think Mayorga may have been a bit better prime for prime but head to head i like Margarito by decision.
Personally, I think Mayorga sucks balls... I think Margarito walks him down and murders him to the body (Mayorga can't deal with bodyshots)
If its proven that Marg loaded his gloves... then he'd be nothing but a slightly better version of Bumlomir.
I dont think anything is proven... we need to know HOW the gloves were loaded, and to what extent they enhanced Margarito's punch... This isn't a Billy Collins situation, nothing of that extent has been proven besides that, when did Mayorga become so terrific? He landed a big punch on Vernon Forrest, and then posed and mugged his way to a bullshit decision in the rematch. He was pummeled by an old Trinidad and De La hoya and Mosley beat him decisively too. He is a glorified punching bag with an outrageous personality... Are we now going to assume that every fight Margarito has had has been with loaded gloves? What about his chin? Is that loaded, too? Until Saturday against Molsey when speed did him in as much as anything, Margarito had shown a tremendous chin against guys with a lot more skill and precision than Mayorga ever had. Mayorga is bullshit... Until it is proven that Margarito's gloves were absolutley "LOADED" I don't think we can just go around assuming that he has never won a fight legitimately... I don't even like Margarito, yet I find myself defending him because he is being executed without a fair trial... It's the same as assuming Trinidad never won a fight clean
I'm just curious to see if anyone is taking into consideration that Mayorga barely missed going 12 with Shane and Margarito barely went 9.
