Lou Dibella stated that if Margarito becomes unavailable to face Miguel Cotto on June 13 at Madison Square Garden, then Andre Berto would be more than happy to replace him, "They could unify titles and the winner will face Luis Collazo next." stated Dibella. Someone has suicide on his mind.::
I'm watching the collazo fight right now, and I realize how bad a beating Berto is gonna take from Cotto.
Even if Cotto shows up to be a shadow of his former self, he can still give a beating to Berto after what Berto demostrated against Collazo.
They may be banking on the possibility that Cotto could have been ruined by Margarito, and they may be right! S_D is right, it's better to see how Cotto looks before making any prediction.
Unless Cotto gets KTFO, there's no way Berto beats Cotto. If Cotto has ANY chin left. Berto simply doesn't have the chin to take shots from Cotto.
The winner will face Luis Collazo.:: That's something to look forward to. Cotto-Berto is a good fight.
Yeah let see how Cotto looks next month..if he has 75% the fighter before the Margarito fight....then Berto is fucked. Berto will give Cotto a few problems in the first 3-4 rounds...w/ his speed and aggressive style...but a few good body punches and head shot from Cotto will slow that down...
REED Thinks Cotto will B FINE... The ONLY Concern REED had was Cotto Potentially Becoming GUNSHY, but Given the Revelation of Margarito & the Handwraps, that has to SOOTHE Cotto's Ego a Bit... Dude is What, 27???....28???:dunno:...He Can't Afford ALOT of Wear & Tear, but that Margarito Fight by Itself ISN'T Enough to "Ruin" Cotto N REED's Opinion...He'll WAX this Jennings Motherfucker, then if Berto is BRAVE, he'll Get his Ass WHIPPED by Cotto N the Summer...& Probably EARLY... REED:fightme:
One simply doesn't know at present, how much Marge's plaster of paris handwraps plus possible alcoholism have taken out of Cotto. As others have said though, if he's even a similar level to where he was before, Berto is getting destroyed. I used to think Berto was a pretty good fighter, but he isn't, he's an average one with fast hands.
dsimon writes: I think it is a little crazy to assume Cotto was ruined. It was not a one sided beatdown for one thing and Cotto can take heart in the findings as well. However as Mex alluded to Cotto has to make some changes. I really don't like the way he shows upt o fights. Look I know back int eh day fighters were lean and mean but damn Cotto has to look nutritionally sound... he does look emaciated and drained and the drinking might be a factor. Its simple, if he wants to fight welter he has to beef up a bit. Dude has to get a little stronger imo. Also he has to go back to the body before attacking the head. The more I watch Margarito the more it appears that he cannot take it to the body.
Cotto fights at a very deliberate pace. I can see Berto's hand speed providing some early troubles for Miguel. However after some early body work and getting the timing down, Cotto takes over the fight and starts breaking Berto down for a stoppage.
no. Dibella just realized his fighter ain't shit. so why not cash in on a Cotto fight than rematch Collazo who he barely beat (at least 50% of fans thought he lost to him). What else is he gonna do with him? He'd lost to Cintron and it wouldn't be a big money fight. And he'd lose to Quintana as well. Again. Another fight that's not big money. Cotto's in a position where he's a big attraction and has a chance to improve his status with a win over an over-rated hack. But it'll come at a price. A price that Berto can't charge the likes of Collazo, Cintron, or Quintana, or even Mosley because the pots not big enough. Plus, Dibella probably hasn't ruled out the possibility that in light of Cotto's beating at the hands of Margarito, that he doesn't have the Vargas syndrome in which case his fighter could actually win. Berto's not that young. And he's not that good. And his promoter knows it.
